Tick Tock

Picture of Tick Tock

Tick. Time is a curious thing. We try to guess our future yet simultaneously we never feel like we get enough of time in the present. Tock. At the beginning of our story Melissa is about to turn 30. Big tick. And Jody had turned 31 earlier in the year. Big tock. Maybe their time to meet someone to create a life with was running out. Tick. Maybe they’d be single forever. Tock. Only time would tell…

Tick.

Tock.

One day Dana and Melissa are on the phone talking. Passing time. Tick. Dana says “M(ichael) has a friend that we think you’d like.” The conversation continues and Melissa agrees to a double date with M, Dana, and M’s fraternity brother named Jody. Tock. Melissa agrees. What’s to loose? Tick. A date is set for August 18th at a Mexican restaurant in Mobile. Tock.

As the days go by leading up to this double date, Melissa continues with her life in Birmingham and planning to see friends and family in Fairhope and Mobile for her birthday. Tick. The day of the date comes and Melissa meets M and Dana at their house to ride with them to dinner. Tock. The three of them get there before Jody and go ahead and order cheese dip. Tick. Dana and M make a joke about Jody always being late. Melissa thinks to herself; relatable. Moments later Jody walks into the restaurant and sits down. Tock.

How poetic would it be if I could tell you time stood still as Jody and Melissa met gazes for the first time … but it did not. Tick. I can tell you this though. Both Jody and Melissa felt that dinner went by too quickly. Tock. After dinner, the two parted ways. Tick. The next day came and there had been no contact between the two. Tock.

Later in the evening of the day after they met. Melissa was having her birthday party with friends and she decides to text Jody. Tick. Melissa typed the message “Hey! It’s Melissa! I had fun at dinner last night! Maybe we can ditch the Whisenhants next time haha” Tock.

Now, I can tell you that time stood still as Melissa anxiously awaited a response.

Tick.

Tock.

40 minutes later, Jody responds back with “I had a good time too! And I’m definitely down to ditch them and hang out just us two whenever you’re free haha” Tick. And just like that, communication never stopped. Tock.

Tick. They went on many more dates. They celebrated birthdays. They celebrated holidays. They introduced each other to their family. Their family met. Jody asked Melissa to be his girlfriend. They said I love you. Melissa said yes. Tock.

To this day their story continues. Tick. Time has more to tell. Tock.

For now, we look forward to celebrating their marriage! Let’s relish in the present and not take time for granted.

Love,
The future Mr. & Mrs. Alidor
