This is Texas' oldest dance hall and a great place to visit if you'd like a little glimpse of traditional Texas music culture. Too many greats to name have played there, and while some events require tickets, lots of times they have free music and fun events happening (like armadillo racing!) The area where it is located is Gruene, and it's a favorite of locals and tourists alike, and absolutely charming to visit and wander around in.
Our hands down favorite burger stop in New Braunfels, this place takes burgers to another level. Their street tacos and other fare are equally great - be sure to try their Orangutang, a Tang flavored frozen boozy beverage.
This is our favorite fancy spot in New Braunfels, and is located in the beautifully renovated former Post Office serving upscale cajun delights. Their oysters are always great, as is their Seafood Fondue. If the weather is nice request a seat on their lovely patio. It gets packed, so if you're headed there Thursday-Sunday, call for a reservation.
Landa Park is directly adjacent to downtown New Braunfels and it routinely listed as one of the top parks in Texas, and home to the annual Wurstfest. There is a great and humongous park for kids, rivers, a train, a pretty decent public golf course, paddle boats, and a DANCE PAD. If you're looking for a hike, Panther Canyon is in this park and it's a little rocky but stunning.
In Gruene (a popular area of New Braunfels) and just one door down from the famous Gruene Hall, is Gruene Grove. A charming spot that almost always has free live music, and is especially magical at night when the lights that weave through the oaks light it up and provide an amazing backdrop to have a drink, dance with the kiddos or adults, and enjoy the Texas hill country October weather.
Classic German Beer hall smack dab in the middle of Texas. Live music most nights and every weekend day. You might meet the man who had his life saved by polka. They make their own pastrami in-house so try the ruben.
