We met before Tinder was the way to swipe into love. In the good old days of instant messaging and waiting for the “online now” icon to hover over the best selfie an iphone 4 could manage to snap. Brent’s funny/punny way with words drew Mel in and led to the first date. Dancing the night away and kissing on the lawn before saying goodnight. Not long after Brent left for a job in Arizona, Mel stayed behind. Fast forward a few years, a few iPhones later and another Instagram download to a new phone. All it took was a DM and we found ourselves out for another night of dancing, like no time had passed at all. We grew together and became one another’s person throughout the years. The one we go to for anything and everything. The one that makes the other laugh even when one doesn’t feel up to it. You’re always told to marry your best friend and there’s no doubt we are on our way to accomplishing just that. Brent decided it was time to make it official and planned a perfect day in the perfect place. Hawaii. We found a day to sneak away from the fam and drive up the North Shore. We hiked through a rainforest to a waterfall, stopped for a little swing on a hidden beach, went horseback riding up the side of a mountain and then stopped for the sunset at Sharks Cove beach. The perfect backdrop for the perfect question from the perfect guy. “Yes, of course!” was the answer to the sweetest proposal a girl could ask for. So here we are. 10 years since the first IM and 6 years since the first DM. Ready to grow our lives together and take on life hand in hand. We can’t wait to finally “Get Smithy with it” this May!
