On the evening of October 26th, 2019, Melissa and Patrick had that "one in a million" chance for their paths to cross. Though the weekend festivities were Halloween themed, the day was Melissa's 25th birthday, and would later be cherished by both as the beginning of something new.

Melissa was costumed as a cat, but Pat played the role in a game of cat and mouse to catch her attention. Pat felt drawn to her bright smile and perfectly wild curly hair, while Melissa was charmed by his genuine laugh and brilliant wittiness. The evening drew into dancing and the eagerness to meet again.

A few weeks later, Melissa challenged Pat to a friendly Thanksgiving road race. Pat truly outdid himself to run with this former collegiate XC and Track girl. He gave all he had to cross the finish line, which left him heaving at a nearby tree. To his surprise, Melissa was highly impressed by his post-race stature because all she saw was dedication and grit - and the urgency to get this man some water.

They enjoyed three wholesome years of dating before becoming Mr. & Mrs. Scheelk on June 16th, 2023, at Palm Beach County Courthouse. The day after their marriage, they again took bounding steps in their second road race as a couple - this time as husband and wife.

Together with God, family, and friends by their side, Pat and Mel know they will not only overcome any obstacle but will love above all else.
