In the Winter of 2013, Melody and George experienced a series of serendipitous encounters at Loyola Marymount University. Realizing an opportunity to talk to her, George bought cupcakes from Melody’s service organization fundraiser. When he saw her again at the library, George asked for her phone number so they could exchange email addresses to share poetry from class. With numbers exchanged, they talked more and became friends.

They spontaneously went to talk about life over a Pizookie. George was impressed when Melody said she wanted her own Pizookie. They did homework together in the psych department work spaces, walked on the beach, and texted all winter break. Over text, they enjoyed “would you rather” hypotheticals. They would ask each other things like “Gratitudes of the day?” “Joke of the day?” “Goals of the day?” Many messages started with goofmorning, adopting a typo they once made. They have kept the tradition and have been sending goofmorning texts and “somethings of the day” for the past ten years.

Their relationship commenced on January 24, 2014 when Melody finally asked, “Is this a date?” and George answered, “It depends. Do you want it to be a date?” Melody responded, “Ok.” Little did Melody know that they had already been on three dates together according to George. Their relationship grew from there.

Together, they enjoy reading random quotes from library books and library/bookstore hopping. They enjoy walking together in new neighborhoods, being silly, and having thoughtful conversations. After a decade together, they will marry June 29, 2024.
