Deep in the “take out only” phase of the pandemic (May 2020), Matt and Meredith were exploring how to meet new people during an isolating time. They took to the dating apps where, you guessed it, they both swiped right. The two chatted about living in Richmond, German beer, and (of course) pancakes. Not wasting any time, they met a few days later at Zilker Park for some beers.

6 hours and countless bug bites later, they both knew this was different. It seemed Luna, Matt’s very clingy dog, agreed as she jumped into Meredith’s car unprompted while saying goodbye.

After months full of hiking, outdoor picnics, and road trips, the couple finally sat down to their first official dinner date (COVID eh?). This took place at Mattie’s no less, where Meredith casually mentioned “yeah, they do weddings too!” It was here that the two shared their true feelings for each other and became officially “official.”

Fast forward to May 2021, when they moved into a house together downtown. Many memories were made here (i.e. parties were had). Beer olympics, NYE, Friendsgiving, and ACL fest pre-parties. The house was always full of family and friends. It was during this time when Meredith, Matt, Rue, and Luna became a family and started dreaming of a future together.

During an inconspicuous weekend trip to Chicago, Matt decided to make a future together certain. It was a rainy, windy, cold evening. After much stress about the weather, the rain cleared and he surprised Meredith with a rooftop proposal. He opened a box to reveal Meredith’s grandmother's engagement ring, and Meredith had no choice but to say yes. :) It was a beautiful and intimate night of celebration.
