June 2021 - The Start


Mica and Austin both swiped right on a dating app!


June 18, 2021 - First Date


After some smooth talking (I'm sure 😁), a lunch date was set! Instead of the typical restaurant first impression, Mica and Austin ran into each other when Austin was locking up his bike. Kinda typical for Fort Collins!


The intended pizza shop was closed, so Austin had to call for an audible, which put them at a restaurant at the corner of College Ave. and Mountain Ave. in downtown Fort Collins. It was a blessing in disguise, because we got a seat out on the patio on a summer afternoon. Although both were still "working", two lunch cocktails were ordered. After lunch, they walked a bit together before departing with the same thought — that went well!

First Road Trip together! We met Mica's college friends (future MOH Emma and husband Austin) at The Great Sand Dunes, and then explored Buena Vista and Golden.

Labor Day weekend to Stubb Creek Cabin, a former ranger cabin, in Northern Colorado. This remains one of our favorite cabin retreats. We watched the sunset from the hill, the sunrise from the porch, and played dominos by the fire inside. Austin for the longest time wanted to return to propose here but times were unavailable and it would of been too obvious!

Labor Day weekend to Stubb Creek Cabin, a former ranger cabin, in Northern Colorado. This remains one of our favorite cabin retreats. We watched the sunset from the hill, the sunrise from the porch, and played dominos by the fire inside. Austin for the longest time wanted to return to propose here but times were unavailable and it would of been too obvious!
Austin's first Iowa trip! The week included multiple days below negative degrees, but he survived!

We flew back Christmas Day, avoiding some crazy traffic and so, we could have our first Christmas together at the Oak Street house in Fort Collins!

Mica's work trip to the Wind River Reservation provided the perfect excuse for Austin to tag along. Once business was finished, we explored nearby Lander, Wyoming and scored an incredible lakeside camping spot where we spent our time lounging in hammocks, hiking, playing games, and enjoying wine.

Austin received best boyfriend award for going to a Taylor Swift concert. In themed attire, Austin dressed as Sunshine, while Mica was Midnight Rain.

Sunset camel ride on the beach in Tangier, Morocco ! We also explored Casablanca, Gibraltar, and parts of Spain before future groomsman Tyler Turk's wedding.

We stopped by the movie site of the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. On this trip, we went to Drake's high school senior football game and Austin met more of Mica's Iowa friends.

Mica, her father, Mitch, and Cody on a day-after Christmas hike at Backbone State Park just outside of Strawberry Point, Iowa. I asked Mitch if I could marry his daughter during a game of chess, while Mica was out with some friends. He jumped up, hugged me, said of course, and then we never finished the game as we were too excited! Mica walked into the door 15 or so minutes after, so we had to play it cool...but we probably failed 😁

We saw the Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devils Tower, and enjoyed seeing Cody play on the beach. The engagement ring got delivered to Austin's work office this weekend.
The engagement spot. A mother-son fishing duo had claimed Austin's intended location, forcing a quick pivot to a spot just over some nearby boulders. But it was clearly meant to be—the two rivers coming together in the background created the perfect symbolic backdrop.

After the rustic cabin, Austin treated us with a staycation at one of the boutique hotels in downtown Fort Collins. We dined at the attached restaurant and met friends at the speakeasy downstairs!
