Those were the only things Chelsea's mom needed to know about Micah before she schemed to get them together. Nevermind the minor obstacle of long distance (Jackson, WY to Tyler, TX), Diane knew Micah would be perfect for Chelsea after just 5 minutes of talking to the guy.

Picture this: Following church service, Chelsea's mom is standing in the lobby of Cornerstone Church in Jackson, WY, waiting for Adam (Chelsea's brother) to be done with his tasks so they can head to lunch. Micah, a textbook introvert, by the grace of God, has the thought to walk up to this sweet lady standing alone and spark a conversation. Please note: Micah NEVER walks up to strangers to spark conversation. He's a shy guy. Anyway, the three topics they managed to skim through: Jesus, math, and sports. Just 5 minutes later, they said their goodbyes and that was that.

Well little did Micah know, those 5 minutes of bravery would be enough to change his life.

While at lunch, Diane found a break in the conversation to address those around the table-- Adam, Summer (Adam’s wife), Duncan (Summer’s dad), and Kelly (Summer’s mom)-- with a bold idea: “What do you think of Micah for Chelsea?”

Immediately following lunch, Duncan and Kelly rush over to Micah’s place and barge in. (i) Shoving a phone with an old facebook photo of Chelsea in Micah’s face, they yell, “Micah, this is Chelsea. She loves Jesus and loves math. Are you interested?” Confused, Micah says sure. Duncan and Kelly call Diane as they leave: “Micah is in. Now it’s your turn to get Chelsea on board.” (ii)

That’s all Micah hears about the subject until a couple months later when he receives a text from Adam that includes a screenshot of a flight itinerary. Chelsea is coming to WY with her sister, Abbey.

Adam and Summer set up the perfect trip for Micah to be included in all the festivities. And sure enough, Micah mustered up the courage to ask Chelsea out on a lunch date the day before she left to go back home.

The first date went well! Funny enough to admit, conversation revolved around the three hot topics: Jesus, math, and sports. But following lunch, it was time for Chelsea to join her family to head back to Adam and Summer’s house. Both Chelsea and Micah could feel the tension: they just went on a first date and Chelsea is leaving tomorrow…

Discerning the predicament, on the way back to the house, Summer whispers in Chelsea’s ear, “You know we do have an extra steak for tonight.”

And so Micah gets the invite for dinner.

After a fun family night with a lot of laughing (and a little crying-- you’ll have to ask Adam), Chelsea walks Micah out and they agree to keep in touch.

And it’s not too long into their “keeping in touch” that Micah suggests the idea of coming to visit Chelsea.

6 months later? Micah moves to Texas.

--

8 months after that? Micah proposes to Chelsea.

--

And on May 1, 2026? Micah will marry Chelsea.

(i) An important detail here to help Duncan and Kelly not sound so crazy for running into this guy’s house: Micah is roommates with Dawson (Summer’s brother (Duncan and Kelly’s son)). Sorry there’s too many names in this story, but all the connections are crucial here.

(ii) For the record, Chelsea was less enthusiastic about the idea. A boy who lives all the way in Wyoming? Yeah right. Logistically, there’s no way this can work. But there was something different in her mom’s voice when she told her: “Honey, you know I NEVER do this. I never pry. But I really want you to consider this.” Scoffing, Chelsea said she would think about it. Her head told her it was a crazy idea, but she’d be lying if she didn’t admit that her heart, for the first time in a long time, felt hope.
