Tyler's Version:
November 20, 2015, Charlotte, NC. My roommate at the time, Zach McKelvey and I headed out to meet some friends for a night of bowling. Before we got to the alley we stopped at a friends house to hang out. We walked through the front door and up the stairs to met everyone, and the moment I reached the last step is the moment that my life changed (for the better) forever.
There she was, sitting by herself, eating pizza and drinking her favorite beer. It was like the moment in the movies where the guy see's a beautiful girl and completely forgets how to act, only worse. I pulled it together and introduced myself to her as quickly as I could, only to get no response on her end as all she cared about was that pizza in front of her. I thought to myself, alright, I get the picture, it's obviously not love at first sight (for her anyway).
Most of the night went on without a single interaction between us, what I didn't know was that one magical thing was occurring. As it turns out, my complete lack of ability to bowl caught her attention (finally something did). Her first words to me were something along the lines of "You are really bad at bowling". Words at the time, couldn't have been more true, but hey I wasn't complaining, the pretty new girl finally is talking to me.
Micayla was there visiting her friend Liz, who is married to my friend Kyle. She was there the whole weekend, so I knew I had less than 48 hours at that point to show this girl how awesome I was. The next day all of us met up again for drinks. Finally I was able to find out more about her and fall hard and quick for how simple, yet wonderful she really is. The night was ending and we were all walking back to our cars to head our separate ways for the night, that is when she got me out of nowhere, BAM! She planted the most awesome, yet unexpected kiss on me.
The next day I did something I had never done and have never done since, miss a Pittsburgh Steelers game. Instead, I went to meet Micayla and some of our friends for a panthers tailgate and to watch the game downtown. If you know me now, that would probably be one of the biggest surprises you'd hear, as I live and die with the Pittsburgh Steelers (to a fault). That whole day we spent getting to know each other more which led me to fall even harder for her simple, yet wonderful way. The day ended with us at dinner with all of our friends, but neither of us could probably tell you about anything that happened there. We were immersed in our own little world, talking to each other in the corner, and sliding closer and closer to one another. That night I knew that there was this special girl who I just HAD to be with.
If you're reading this, you know what happened. You know how this story has gone and you know that we are beyond happy to marry one another and spend forever loving each other. If there's one piece of advice I can give you on how to land the perfect girl, it's to be bad at bowling, it worked just fine for me.
Micayla's Version:
Well since Tyler is going to tell you that I ignored him the first time I met him…let me tell you why!
I went to visit my best friend, Liz P, which happens to be my matron of honor. I drove to Charlotte, NC which was over a 6-hour drive, however I did not eat until I made it to her place which had no food. Therefore, over what felt like forever which was really probably only like an hour I received pizza and cracked open a beer, Tyler walks up the stairs and introduces himself. I was currently in the process of eating my pizza and drinking my beer that apparently, I only nodded my head (I mean can you blame me I was starving…) Anyways soon after this we all went bowling which was when I finally decided to introduce myself and by introduce myself I mean I went up to Ty to tell him how bad he was at bowling and then that is when our story started… The whole weekend Ty and I were in our own little world. My last day in North Carolina before heading home was spent at a Panthers tailgate and to my surprise Tyler showed up. He kept telling me he cancelled big plans to be there which I obviously did not believe him. However, I soon found out those plans included meeting with his Dad and brothers to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers… which I didn’t realize how big that was until later on because that would never happen again. I also got asked multiple times when our wedding was going to be? So for those of you who asked that weekend the wedding is 9/21/19.
Tyler's Version:
December 26, 2017, Savannah, GA. I had it all planned out in my head. Made all the calls and arrangements to make this the most special day of her life. That morning Micayla and I set out for our week long vacation that started in Savannah and ended in Charleston, SC. I drove the what seemed like 12 hour trip to where we were staying, the ring in my pocket (no way I was letting that thing get away from me) and playing through what I would say in my head (this would later turn out to be irrelevant).
When we arrived in Savannah we had only 30 minutes to change and get ready for our carriage ride that I had planned which would take us to one of the most beautiful fountains in the city, the place I would propose. As Micayla will tell you, I tried my best to play in cool, but changed four different times before we even left. Once we got in the carriage we went on a tour of all the amazing places of the city, I was not hearing a single thing the guide was saying. All that was on my mind was not screwing up what had taken months to plan. When we arrived at the fountain the guide told us to get out and make a wish, as we were walking Micayla asked me what I was going to wish. In the extreme nervous state I was in of course I went to something quickly off the top of my head. I said I was going to wish for a Steelers super bowl victory, hopefully that was going to throw her off just in case she might have known what was coming (if you've seen the engagement pictures, she had no idea).
As we both threw our coins in the fountain she turned to me to ask what I had wished for and there I was down on one knee, saying God knows what to her because I honestly have no idea what words came out of my mouth. I obviously got my point across because the next thing I knew, Micayla turned into the biggest cry baby ever and said yes. The pure happiness, joy, and downright relief that ensued in that moment is something that I will never forget. I finally had my forever girl.
Micayla's Version:
The big day that I didn’t realize was going to be the big day…So every December Ty and I try to take a mini vacation. It was my turn to choose so Ty kept requesting for us to go to Savannah, GA and I wanted to go to Charleston, SC so why not compromise and go to both places in a short time. The day after Christmas we left for Savannah, GA. We had an itinerary which consisted of arriving at a certain time, then going on a carriage ride around town and going to eat. Anyone who knows Tyler knows he likes having a plan which is the complete opposite of me. We obviously weren’t on schedule and Ty gave me 10-15 minutes to get ready for one of the biggest days of our lives. While I was getting ready, Ty interrupted me about five different times freaking out over his pants being wrinkled. I obviously did not understand why he was making such a big deal out of wrinkled pants. During this time, he also changed four different times. We quickly left to make it on time to the carriage ride around downtown Savannah. Upon parking in the garage Ty had me running in my heels to make it on time (Another thing I learned about Ty he hates being late…) We arrived to the carriage in perfect timing and off we were to see the historic downtown Savannah. During the carriage ride our tour guide would tell us all the places to go visit and also historic facts. I couldn’t hear her very well so that is when I leaned over to Ty to ask him what she said? Which he replied I don’t know multiple times. I realized Ty was not paying attention and kept moving a lot I figured something was up. We finally reached the final stop of our tour, a fountain located in Columbia Square. We walked up to the fountain with coins to make a wish which Ty kept telling me he was going to wish for the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the Super Bowl. Instead he got on one knee and asked me to marry him in which I responded with a head nod yes (& yes I cried for about a minute even though Ty exaggerates it).
