We met at the University of North Dakota. Kayla was Mikes student during her Commercial course. (It was purely professional while she was a student!!!) We had some mutual friends which led us to having our first date at a pub called the Tavern in Grand Forks.
We werent official boyfriend and girlfriend until November of 2018, cause her sister was getting married and she said we needed to be official for me to go. Mike wasnt going to miss out on a good time, so he built the courage up to ask her out. Mike went all out and got Kaylas favorite things. Mike asked as he was sweating profusely cause he wanted to go to this wedding, and thankfully Kayla said yes. (Im kidding!!, I knew Kayla was the one on the third date.)
At the end of 2019, Mike had started his first airline job and had to leave Grand Forks while Kayla finished up her hours. Mike would commute up to Grand Forks and stay with Kayla on his off days. When Covid hit in 2020, we quarantined, braved covid, and learned to love contactless pickups together.
In October of 2021, we did our first vacation together! We traveled to Hawaii and had the best time. Mike is deathly afraid of the ocean, but Kayla helped Mike face his fear and got him to go snorkeling! We are excited to go on many more trips together as husband and wife.
Kayla finished her hours and got her first airline job in January 2022. She moved out of Grand Forks (Thank god we never have to go there again) and moved in with Mike in Woodbury. Fun Fact: Mike is an instructor for the same airline and got to teach her again in the simulator! it was like the good ole days except Kayla wasnt too happy about Mike teaching her again.
June 2022 we adopted our first fur baby, Mimi! She is a German Sheppard mix, and absolutely loves belly rubs, walks, people, ice cubes, food soup, and barking at other dogs. Mimi is the cutest dog, this isnt up for debate.
toward the end of 2022 Mike was thinking it was time to start thinking about asking Kayla to marry him. We started ring shopping the middle of 2023. Kayla gave Mike some options to choose from, but Mike knew immediately which one he was gonna choose out of those.
Mike planned a proposal (with the help of his brother, sister, and future sister in law) to ask Kayla at the top of the Stillwater stairs that look over the river and the lift bridge. We always talked about having Taylor Swifts Paper Rings and Love Story incorporated in the proposal, so Mike hired a violinist to play those songs as she walked up the stairs. A small crowd (of like 30 people) watched as Kayla walked up the stairs in complete surprise (she thought I was home sick LOL) of Mike with a French style set up, including champagne, flowers, and music. Mike got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. After Mike proposed, he had one more surprise. He invited all of her family and his family to River Siren brewing to surprise her for the engagement party.
This is the Story of Mike and Kayla, and were very excited to share our special day with you!
