Our Wedding

It was Sept 02, 2006.&nbsp;Mike and David met at 59 Lake, which is present day Stingrays in Rehoboth Beach, DE.&nbsp;David was visiting from Philadelphia and Mike was visiting while being stationed with the Navy in Norfolk, VA.&nbsp;Mike saw David across a crowded room&nbsp;while he was out with his friends.&nbsp;Later, while David was dancing with someone else, Mike’s friends gave him the courage to approach David, and they have been together ever since.&nbsp;That Monday, Mike returned to Virginia and David to Philadelphia. The Wednesday afterwards, they met again. Mike reached out to David to ask if he had dinner plans. David did not and Mike replied for him to keep it that way. Mike drove five hours, from Norfolk to Philadelphia, just to have dinner with David. After dinner, he left to head back to Norfolk, making it back just in time to report to the ship for duty the next morning. Despite their distance, their lives began to change. They spent Fridays heading to Rehoboth so that they could spend time together and get to know each other. This took place pretty much every weekend unless Mike was out to sea or had duty in Virginia. Some weekends, if Mike had duty, he would pay his shipmates to take his duty so that he could meet David in Delaware or Philadelphia.&nbsp;Perhaps dating someone at a distance would have been a barrier for others, but for Mike and David, it gave them a chance to meet over time.&nbsp;They took their time and truly learned about each other.&nbsp;&nbsp;In April 2008, Mike was scheduled to deploy overseas. At this time, David had met some of Mike's family and Mike had met some of David’s family. Once David’s parents heard that Mike was deploying overseas, they requested that they meet him before his departure. The weekend before Mike went out to sea, he came up to Philadelphia and they headed over to New Jersey to have dinner with David’s folks.While deployed, Mike became a pen pal for David’s dad.&nbsp;In fact, it was the relationship he built with David’s father that won David over.&nbsp;David’s dad told Mike&nbsp;stories&nbsp;of when he was young, hanging out in Atlantic City as well as when he was in the Army stationed in Alaska.&nbsp;Every day, Mike was able to call David and email with David’s father, Mr. A.&nbsp;Mike eventually left the military due to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell restricting his ability to truly be himself and&nbsp;love&nbsp;who he chose even though he was begged daily to re-enlist, awarded a NAM (Navy Marine Corp Achievement Medal), and set up for a promotion.&nbsp;April 2009 rolled around, and Mike rolled out of the Navy, turning down orders to the Pentagon and reentering civilian life. He moved in with David in Philadelphia and their relationship grew.&nbsp;During their time in Philly, they had amazing support of numerous family and friends.Mike and David ran away to live in Houston Texas together in early 2010 where they developed their passion for Bull Terriers.&nbsp;Mike and David met a phenomenal circle of diverse friends.They returned to the East Coast when Mr. A became ill. David returned to the Philadelphia area for work and Mike entered the construction industry at the Delaware beaches. They were back to just living together on the weekends. It was difficult, but they were determined to make it work. An opportunity presented itself and they were finally able to live together again, this time in Lewes, DE, near their DelMarVa/PANJ families and surrounded by amazing neighbors.With David's closest people Mrs. Fay (mom) and Wayne's (bestie) blessing June 2019, Mike surprised David with a proposal while they were back in Texas so that David could officiate their friends' wedding.&nbsp;Mike arranged a flash mob, a choir, and a beautiful sun lit day for a proposal at a reflection pool in a public park. Houston family-friends and even some friends who had flown in from the East Coast surrounded the happy couple.&nbsp;Mike and David now live in Florida and have a wonderful life –with their Bull Terrier (Echo) and are surrounded by an amazing circle both near and far.&nbsp;They share their passion for loving life and helping others, whether supporting Jusst Sooup or other causes.&nbsp;Mike and David's life continues to grow, and they feel blessed every moment.&nbsp;Love is LoveProposal video:&nbsp;https://youtu.be/yU04NFUZpwY

Things to Do

David and I go way way back.  Back in the days of Gatsbys in Cherry Hill, Nj and Woody's Kurts, and 2-4 in Philadelphia.  We became instant friends.  I saw him through his mullet, his pony tail, his perm, his mohawk, and was the one to push for his shaved head.  He got me into trouble, and I, well, got him into plenty.  We hung with an amazing group of friends from Philadelphia.  When I bought my beach palace in Rehoboth DE, David was a frequent welcomed visitor.   
It was during one of those visits that he met Michael. I give Michael credit.  David was hard to get but Michael was persistent.  When Michael developed a solid relationship with Arnie, David's dad, I knew that David found a really special person.  Michael and David spent many getaways down in Rehoboth with me.  I know our group intimidated Michael a bit, but he hung in there and won us over with his kindness and how well he treated David.  We got to know many of Michael's amazing friends and I knew David was in good hands.
When Michael asked me for David's hand, after 13 years of being together, I knew the right answer was yes.
Michael and David, I wish you both all the best.  David, you know I love you more than my luggage.

I’ve always loved the beach and loved the water.  One of the many highlights of my weekend would always be visiting Rehoboth Beach, specifically partaking in the nightlife, Blue Moon, Purple Parrott and of course the infamous Renegade nightclub.
It was at the Renegade the summer of 2002, where I met Mr. Michael Freshwater and the entire Rehoboth Beach Crew.  From that moment on we became the lifelong friends we are today and have shared in many of each other’s life experiences.  From me seeing him off to the military, to being introduced to the love of his life David, Mike has always held a special place in my heart.
The moment I met David, I thought…OMG, he’s cute and so quiet and oh how he doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into.  With the passing of time, however, I realized David was well aware, possessed an infinite amount of love for Mike and in a short amount of time became part of the family, so in my book he definitely was a keeper.  
Freshky… as they are affectionately known to some of us have been woven into the fabric of many of our lives.  I am blessed to have Mike and David in my life and am honored to stand with them.

Mike has been one of my besties for over a decade now after first meeting at the Renegade. We have shared many laughs and road trips together. From the days of club hopping to going on vacations. I was there for all of his going away parties for his military deployments as well was their first visitor when he and David decided to move to Houston TX. I have always loved Mike's willing spirit.

I was there with Mike during the very beginning of his relationship with David. Mike would often call me for advice because he knew I would give him the truth with no sugarcoating even if it hurt his feelings.

I feel honored and privileged to stand with Mike and David on their special day. When Mike asked me neither he nor I had a dry eye. I love them both and promise to stand in support of this marriage.

I met David when I joined Temple Health a long time ago.  On my first day at work, he was warm, caring and knowledgeable about all things Temple.  When in doubt, I could rely on David for the answer.

Every year, my birthday was an event in the office.  A group of us headed from work to my birthday dinner at a local restaurant.  Unbeknownst to me, David brought a guest as a surprise.  Well guess who came to dinner? An attractive seaman with a beautiful smile.  You guessed it, “Michael Freshwater”.  Of course, I had questions, who, what, when, where and how.  Mike was not shy and spilled all of the “tea”. 

I challenged Mike to join our friend Angie and me for a friendly run on Kelly Drive.  Hint hint, I did not share how long the run would be, 8 miles.  Some would have stopped and turned around but not Mike. He just kept asking, "Are we close to the end?"  To this day he never lets me forget the day we almost killed him by running.

Mike allowed me to know a side of David that I never knew.  And, I am so grateful that they found each other. 

Although they keep moving farther and farther away, there is no distance that will keep me from my "forever friends". 

And, as the years continue and our families flourish and grow, I am honored and deeply humbled to have David and Mike in my life to share it all.

I have known Mike for decades now! Wow that's sounds like we're old&nbsp;but it's true I've known him 25+ years as his sister Latrinka's BFF since 8th grade. Mike has always been a true gentlemen, a great guy and great friend to me. I have had the honor of being an addition to their family, in my mothers absence, I now consider them my uncles. My mother was initially set for this role but I am humbled to be asked to take her place alongside her bestie, LaTisha. I am so honored to celebrate these two amazing people who are resilient, selfless and hands down AMAZING!
