The Dutch also have their own kind of pancakes (sweet or savory) they are similar to French crepes. There are many places, this one is good Pancakes Amsterdam Negen Staatjes (Berenstraat 38). Negen Staatjes (Nine Streets) is a cool micro neighborhood which is good for wandering and shopping. Café De Klepel is a small but very cool French restaurant (Prinsenstraat 22). Hard to get reservations. Another popular for classic Dutch food is Restaurant Moeders (Rozengracht 251). A must do is getting something fried from a FEBO, there are 22 of these food automats in the city.

Other than that, the Dutch aren't really known for their food, but you can find a stroopwafel, two waffles with caramel syrup in the middle at grocery stores (Albert Heijn) or at Happy wafel (Albert Cuypstraat 241) by the Cuypmarkt (a popular outdoor market).

You can also get frites met mayonaise (fries with mayonnaise) , a classic at many street vendors such as Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx (Voetboogstraat 33). The other street food that you either love or hate is Herring (cured raw haring), usually served naked or in a sandwich (pickles and onion a must!). If you are near the Anne Frank House (you need tickets weeks in advance) you can grab one at Haringkar de Gigant (Westermarkt 66) or closer to the hotel Evert's Vishuisje (Potgieterstraat 75). Indonesian food is really good in Amsterdam and a cute really well knows place is Indrapura (Rembrandtplein 40-44) Tujuh Maret (Utrechtsestraat 73). I'd recommend doing Rijstafel which are a lot of small plates (think tapas).

As far as museums, most of them are all fairly close together conveniently in Museumplein (Museum Square). Go to the Rijksmuseum to see some famous paintings from Vermeer and Rembrandt or the van Gogh Museum to see a collection of the Netherlands' most famous artists. This area is not far from the Vondelpark which is kind of like Amsterdam's Central Park and a great place to have a stroll.

There are lots of great old cafes where you can get a drink, I suggest beer but you can also try Dutch Gin which is called Jenever. A great classic spot is Three Little Bottles (Gravenstraat 18). If you are missing New York you can grab an IPA at De Kleine Appel (Dusartstraat 51H). Flying Dutchmen Cocktails (Singel 460) or Dutch Courage (Zeedijk 12) are both excellent cocktail bars.

In the east part of the city there is a brewery that is inside a windmill. Great beer and a cool unique setting. Brouwerij 't IJ (Funenkade 7) they also have another location in Voldelpark. The other awesome brewery is in the north part of Amsterdam. You need to take a free 3 min. ferry from Centraal Station and a bike would be helpful. It's called Oedipus Brewing (Gedempt Hamerkanaal 85). I recommend going there then dinner at Hotel De Goudfazant (Aambeeldstraat 30) reservations are a good idea.

There are several cool parks, the most famous being the 120 acre Vodelpark as well as Westerpark in the west which housed an old natural gas plant.

The nightlife centers are in Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein. Near Leidseplein are several music venues, Melkweg and Paradiso (a converted church) as well as the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.
