We met in June 2015 while Mike was working as a sales consultant at our local AT&T. I had just moved into my own apartment with my dad so we drove over and bought the essentials first; TV & Internet. He ended up being my sales rep and after finding out we had mutual friends, it wasn't long before I had started texting his work phone, told him I liked him and gotten his cell number.
Shortly after, we started hanging out with Alex, my friend from work, & her boyfriend Russ (now fiancé), his work buddy, at their house. We got along pretty well so we decided to start dating. It was the best decision I've ever made. The more we spent time together, the more we shared stories about what we had been like as kids, what our current worldviews were, which movies we loved/hated, and occasionally sung drunkenly along with Green Day songs when we'd have a bonfire.
About 6 months later, I asked to move in. I remember it because I was so nervous that I was pacing in front of him struggling to get the question out but even more so because of his answer. He just tilted his head to the side for a second as if to say, "Ummmm…" and then said, "Yeah, sure. Why not?" He said it so nonchalantly, like it was no big deal. I was so happy that I was giddy. He probably knew I was in love with him then.
If he didn't, he found out a month later. I accidentally said it over the phone when I got pulled over for speeding in his truck. I couldn't find his insurance card and had called to ask where they were. He didn't pick up at first so I left a message and at the end, nervously screwed up my 'good-bye' with an, "Okay, I love you, bye!" Whoops.
From the beginning, he referred to us as "we" when he talked to people about us. Whether it was going on vacation for a week, building a raised bed garden next to the house, going out with friends, it was always…"Yeah, me and Meg did 'this' over the weekend." I noticed this before but tried to stay humble and not get too excited because based off the amount of time he was with Megan #1, his last serious girlfriend, I had quite a few more years to put in before he would even think about asking me to married him, which I admittedly already thought about too often! As time went by though, the "us" started to grow on me.
That's why, on April 4th, 2017, when we went to our favorite Italian restaurant, the place we went on our first date, I was in for a big surprise. Because Mike is the "always on the go" type, he usually doesn't want to linger too long after dinner. He has the patience for me to finish eating after that, its get the check, pay, and go. That night, he ordered a coffee after our plates were cleaned. I thought that was weird. Then, the coffee took a while to come out and there were a few tables that were occupied but nothing crazy. Then, Mary Joe, the co-owner of the restaurant, came out with a tiramisu we hadn't ordered and placed it in-between us, a ring stuck in the center of it. I was so excited and shocked that I'm pretty sure I didn't even let him ask me the question before I said, "Yes, yes!"
Now, we're getting married! We consider ourselves to be so lucky to have even met and fallen in love. Now I get to spend the rest of my life with the most amazing man in my life. That sounds like a pretty good beginning to me!
