How We Met

Sean and Michaela met while lifeguarding at the local pool, Sylvan. Michaela took her lifeguard class with his brother Erik. It was taught by his grandmother, Jean.

The timing wasn't right as Sean went off to travel for work and Michaela went off to college. Luckily this wasn't the end of our story together!

Reconnecting

In January of 2020, Michaela traveled to France to study abroad where she saw many amazing things and ate lots of delicious food...but something even better was happening behind the scenes. Sean and Michaela began communicating throughout her time there and when she arrived home, they were both excited to see each other again.

The first date was at Harrison Hills, as was the second, third, fourth and fifth... most of the usual date spots were shut down so there weren't many other options!

Sean made numerous trips to Saint Francis to see Michaela. Dates were often hiking at the various parks in the area, drinking at the microbreweries in Ebensburg or hammocking at Prince Gallitzin. The first "I Love You" was said on this day at Chimney Rocks Park in Hollidaysburg PA.

We met each others families and did lots of staying in due to shutdowns, including Erik's COVID 21st birthday. We were the life of the party of course!!

Sean learned how to ski...kind of! He was off to a rocky start due to a knee injury and subperfect ski conditions, but this will be important later!

The Proposal

Sean travelled cross country with Michaela's family for their annual Christmas trip to Colorado where they met up with Michaela's brother, Nathan. The ring came with but trying to keep it a secret, Sean said nothing when his bag was put into the roof rack of the car.

Sean improved his ski skills over the first few days until Christmas. He snuck Michaela away from the rest of the family for a few runs in the back bowls at Vail. He told Michaela they should take a picture in the pine trees...since it would be "Christmasy." Michaela was totally oblivious and happily obliged

After taking the picture, Sean got as close to one knee as someone can on a pair of skis and popped the question. Michaela asked "is this really happening?" and of course said YES!

Afterwards, they enjoyed celebratory drinks in the hot tub with Michaela's family and some friends and facetimed Sean's family!
