Why Arapahoe Basin?

Our mutual love for the environment and the outdoors led us to Colorado. While there are many beautiful mountains in Colorado, Arapahoe Basin, or A-Basin as most people call it, is one of our favorites! Black Mountain Lodge backs up to the Continental Divide so the views are amazing. We have spent many blue bird days at A-Basin where you can usually ski until June. We are excited to share this special place with you on our wedding day!

About Arapahoe Basin Venue Elevation - 11,550' The ceremony and reception will be held atop the mountain at The Black Mountain Lodge. Your escort to the top of the mountain will be a chair lift ride where you will enjoy the views of the continental divide.WeatherGet ready to enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather! The average high for July in Keystone Colorado is 60-70 degrees, lows in the 30's-40's. It's not unusual to have a short rain shower in the afternoon.Be sure to dress in layers and wear sunscreen!Altitude Sickness At the high altitude of the Colorado mountains everyone is affected to some degree. As you go to the higher altitudes, the barometric pressure decreases, the air is thinner and less oxygen is available. At elevations of 8,000 plus feet many symptoms may occur including: breathing faster and more deeply which results in shortness of breath and exertion, headache, nausea, trouble sleeping and unusual tiredness (this is more commonly referred to as AMS or acute mountain sickness).These symptoms should go away in a day or two. If symptoms persist or worsen a physician should be consulted. Even a short visit to the doctor can save the rest of your trip!How to prevent altitude sickness.-Increase fluid intake – 2 or 3 times normal intake; water and juice are best; hydration is key to preventing altitude sickness!-Be careful of alcohol intake and minimize caffeine on arrival and a couple of days after. Remember, you may be much more sensitive to the effects of alcohol at a high altitude, please be very careful.-Decrease salt intake as salt causes your body to retain fluids, increasing the severity of altitude illness.-Eat frequent small meals high in carbs, low in fat and low in protein.-Maintain moderate physical activity and get plenty of rest.-Medications and oxygen can help you feel better. Ask your doctor about medications to help with altitude sickness and portable oxygen if you are concerned.-Studies have shown that spending 1-2 nights at a modest altitude of 5,000-6000 feet decrease symptoms when you go higher.

Wedding Shuttles

Wedding Day - Shuttles to/from Arapahoe Basin 

The safety of our guests is our top priority. We will be providing shuttles to and from Arapahoe Basin on the day of the wedding from both River Run Village and Central Keystone/Snake River Village. On your RSVP you will have the option to say whether or not you would like to utilize the shuttle to the wedding venue. Please let us know if you plan on using it so we can make sure we provide enough shuttles for everyone! As you can see in the photo above, River Run Village and Snake River Village are right next to each other. On the map we have added the locations of the shuttle pick ups/drop offs in these two villages. The pick up locations and pick up times are below. Pick Up Locations - River Run Archway (main entrance, close to the large River Run parking lot) &amp; the Snake River Saloon and Steakhouse Parking LotPick Up Times - 4:oo PM and 4:20 PM (this will be the last shuttle going up to the mountain before the ceremony ). Both pick up locations will have shuttles at each time.

The wedding will be held at Arapahoe Basin, a ski resort located 5-7 minutes east of Keystone. Arapahoe Basin does not have lodging so we are recommending our guests stay in Keystone for the weekend. Keystone is closely located to our wedding site and has plenty of lodging options, shopping and fun activities for everyone to enjoy.For those of you who are traveling from out-of-town, we are so grateful that you are making the trip for our wedding celebration! There are a couple of transportation options. If you are flying into Denver International Airport, you can either take a shuttle to the mountains or rent a car and drive. Approximate drive time from Denver International Airport to Keystone: 1 hour 40 minutesFrom Denver International Airport (DIA) to Arapahoe BasinThe resort is a 96 mile drive west from Denver International Airport via I-70 west. From DIA take I-70 west to Silverthorne (exit 205), then travel 12 miles east on U.S. Highway 6. Or, choose the scenic route from Denver by taking I-70 west to Loveland Pass (exit 216), and proceed west on U.S. Highway 6 for 8 miles. If you are driving to the wedding there will be a large dirt parking lot at the base of the mountain where you may park. Shuttles from DIA to Keystone, CO.If you do not want to rent a car you can still easily get to Keystone. Colorado Mountain Express is a great shuttle company with a large fleet of shuttles for out of town guests. In the summer they typically have 9 shuttles per day that will pick up from DIA and bring to Summit County. This shuttle is $66 per person per way from the airport to your door in Keystone or $50 from DIA to the Frisco Transportation Center, from which you can take a free bus into Keystone.<a href="http://www.coloradomountainexpress.com/">http://www.coloradomountainexpress.com/</a>Summit Express is another option for $65 from DIA to your door in Keystone. <a href="http://www.summitexpress.com/" target="_blank">http://www.summitexpress.com/</a>Transportation in Keystone:Once you arrive in Summit County, the <a href="http://www.co.summit.co.us/index.aspx?NID=586">Summit Stage</a> will offer county wide ground transportation (restrictions apply) at no charge and Keystone Resort provides in town shuttle transportation to designated areas within Keystone.Wedding Day - Shuttles to/from Arapahoe Basin - We will be providing shuttles to and from Arapahoe Basin on the day of the wedding from both River Run Village and Central Keystone.

Travel

If you are driving yourself to Keystone, you will want to take I-70 from the airport due west. We recommend you take Loveland Pass to get to Keystone (Exit 216). We also recommend you hop out at the top of the pass and take a few pictures on the Continental Divide. Be sure to look out for Arapahoe Basin on the way down the hill! There are a lot of twists and turns, so if you aren't a windy road type of driver, you may want to go through Silverthorne (just as fast).

Get out and enjoy beautiful Colorado! There are tons of great hiking options around this area. Check out the link for a list of local trails.

Get some Colorado craft beer! There are tons of great brewery options close to where you will be staying. Pug Ryan's, the Dillon Dam Brewery, and the Baker's Brewery are all located 15 minutes from Keystone Village. If you are willing to venture even further, Breckenridge and Frisco also have a plethora of great breweries and distilleries.

Breck is one of our favorite mountain towns - and only a short drive (or free bus ride) from Keystone. Main Street offers restaurants, breweries, and fun shopping. There is a ton of history in Breckenridge as well as a riverwalk and even amusement park rides on the mountain. A wonderful place to spend the day!

There are plenty of things to do at Keystone resort, including mountaintop yoga and gondola rides to the top of the mountain. Keystone also offers paddleboarding, mountain biking, guided fly fishing expeditions, horseback riding, etc. (visit the website for additional details).
