Where Tú & I Became Us

If you told us years ago that a girl from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and a guy from South Hadley, Massachusetts would meet in New Hampshire and fall in love, we probably would’ve laughed but Saint Anselm College had other plans.We met in 2019 at a football party during Michelle’s freshman year and Matt’s sophomore year. Michelle was on the volleyball team, Matt was working with football, and we didn’t just connect through sports, but we learned early on how to show up for each other. Matt may or may not have played it a little cool at first (and Michelle still teases him about it today).On March 8, 2020 — at a Celtics game, just days before the world shut down — we officially became a couple. The timing wasn’t perfect, but somehow, we were. From that point forward, we navigated everything together and figured out what it meant to truly support each other through every season of life.Over the years, Matt took 18 trips to Puerto Rico to visit Michelle. We’ve grown side-by-side through college, long-distance, career changes, grad programs, and moving out-of-state. In 2022, we took a leap and moved to Connecticut for our masters program with Matt graduating in 2025 and Michelle graduating in 2026. We recently settled into Middletown and love building a life there together.On August 2, 2024, Matt proposed in Old San Juan — a place that became special to him over the years through those many trips to see Michelle’s home. Surrounded by family and friends, he asked the easiest question Michelle has ever answered. The celebration continued the next day at her childhood home, making the whole weekend unforgettable.Now we’re counting down the days until June 20, 2026 — when we get to celebrate with all the people who have been a part of our love story from the beginning. We can’t wait to start forever with you by our side.
