Michelle and Joe met at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014. She was a freshman. He was a senior. They were both members of the Asian American Association and quickly became friends. They bonded over their love of video games, anime, and trying new foods.

When Joe was about to graduate, he decided to ask Michelle out. From there, they began a three-year long-distance relationship before Michelle finally moved to Seattle in 2018.

Throughout their relationship, they have helped each other grow, supported one another's mental health, and discovered new hobbies together. So when Joe proposed, no one was surprised. In fact, most people’s response was, “Oh my gosh, FINALLY!”
