Michelle's side:

Shane and I were in the same graduate program in Virginia Beach. I noticed him right away and thought he was so cute- way too cute to be interested in me! We became friends through late night study sessions (procrastinators unite!) and joking with each other at school. For a year and a half, I tried to get over my "crush" on him and just appreciate his friendship, until the day in May 2015 where he asked me to be his girlfriend. I was so surprised and in shock...for days. Then in December of 2015 he asked me to marry him! We have learned so much together over our friendship, dating relationship, and now engagement. I know that life is better with him. I learn more about God's love, myself, and how to care for others through him. I so look forward to the life ahead!

Shane's side:

Shortly after moving to Virginia Beach to attend grad school, I met a girl who I knew would be trouble. I had told all of my college friends that I wouldn't date a girl in my program because nothing good could come of it. During those first several weeks we consistently found ourselves talking which each other rather than the group. Late night writing sessions enabled us to spend time together, focusing only on school and getting to know the other. A year and a half after our first meeting I began to realize that she was the one I wanted to share exciting news with or discuss how our days went. Four months later, and after again reasserting I wouldn't date anyone in our program the night before, I asked her on our first date. Life has been a whirlwind of school and adventures since that day but one thing is for sure, I still stand by my statement that nothing good ever comes from dating someone in your own program. For me, Michelle is so much more than just another good thing. I am more myself when I am with her. Life is how it should be!
