Our Wedding

Adam and I met at a party aptly called “Wedding Tales” in San Francisco August 2016. I should add, I was not invited to this party...&nbsp;I was a friend of a friend of a friend. Had I not gotten my haircut that day and needed to show off my fresh new 'do, I would not have attended the party (editor's note: Michelle wouldn't have even been invited to said party&nbsp;had Adam not presciently (read: accidentally)&nbsp;changed the invite list on Facebook to "friend of friends"...leading to 350 people "attending" when he woke up the next morning).&nbsp;I asked my friend from grad school, Tashi, if she was down for a theme party. The answer was a resounding yes, especially considering the theme.

The theme of this multi-house progressive&nbsp;block party was&nbsp;based on a Dartmouth party one of the hosts loved. It was&nbsp;stages of a relationship ... starting in the garage was “college” with beer pong being played and 80s power ballads blasting over the speakers. This is&nbsp;&nbsp;where you were supposed to&nbsp;meet your special someone. Then the party moved&nbsp;in to the living room with plastic proposal engagement ring and&nbsp;to the backyard for&nbsp;“wedding” with ice luge and&nbsp;DJ and people in actual wedding dresses&nbsp;(side&nbsp;note:&nbsp;this&nbsp;is why the party wasn't shut down, the cops thought it was an actual wedding). Then we moved across the street to what I later found out was Adam's house for Honeymoon, featuring&nbsp;Hawaiian Leis and&nbsp;Jimmy Buffet tunes, and then,&nbsp;finally, to the&nbsp;last room: divorce court. We walked&nbsp;down the creepy stairs&nbsp;into the dimly lit basement, with “here I go again on my own” playing on a loop,&nbsp;and it&nbsp;was here, in divorce court, that I met&nbsp;Adam. He was&nbsp;acting as officiant, “divorced” me from my friend,&nbsp;and said to make the divorce official, he&nbsp;would need my phone number. We started talking, realized we both lived in Australia, one beach town and 7 years apart, and hit it off.&nbsp;





After waiting 5 days (!) to text me the perfect opening line ("So, if you make out with the woman whose divorce you just officiated what does that say about you?")&nbsp;we started dating shortly thereafter&nbsp;and realized we were the others full whole person who somehow makes the other feel even more themselves. 1 year later, I&nbsp;moved into that house on Hickory street with Adam and Mike (Hi, Officiant!)&nbsp;becoming the party guest that never left.&nbsp; We also purchased "Just Divorced"&nbsp;custom denim jackets for the party the next year, and we joke that we are the Benjamin Button of relationships #StartedFromDivorceNowWeHere.&nbsp;Shortly after Wedding Tales Part II,&nbsp;we moved into our little sunny apartment (the Pup Palace in Potrero Hill).&nbsp;I should also add I’m a graduate student in Psychology, specialized in couples, and we met after I&nbsp;gotten jaded about relationships and love after counseling couples&nbsp;and individuals around&nbsp;heartbreak&nbsp;and disappointment. So yeah,&nbsp;Adam taught me to re-believe in love and has also made me a more hopeful therapist and person.&nbsp;They don't call me squishymushy for nothing &lt;3





Counting down to Wedding Tales Part III: The Trilogy,&nbsp;exactly 3 years after we met that fateful August day.

How We Met

"You asshole!" Those were the first words out of Michelle's mouth after I asked her to marry me. We were on the edge of a&nbsp;cliff&nbsp;&nbsp;in the Australian Blue Mountains and I was down on one knee as the sun was setting.&nbsp;

Of course, I probably deserved that reaction&nbsp;since the ring I had just shown her was plastic and she was in sweatpants with hair that hadn't been washed in 5 days.&nbsp;



But, it&nbsp;was&nbsp;the fake ring from the night we first met at The Wedding Tales party 2 years earlier.&nbsp;After that realization dawned on her, the tears started to flow. And then they kept flowing. Now she was crying so hard I wasn't sure what was going on. Then, she grabbed the fake ring and put it on. Needless to say, I was confused.&nbsp; 



Then a smile started to creep up her face and I thought...well this has to be a good thing. Next laughing and crying. Now she was looking at the fake ring like she wanted to keep it forever. Even though I had the REAL ring in my pocket, I was now thinking..."maybe I can just return this real&nbsp;one for a refund?"



That thought quickly left my mind as I pulled out the real ring. MORE&nbsp;TEARS. Actual convulsive, heaving&nbsp;tears. Michelle grabbed the real ring and put that one on top of the fake one. And then one huge smile spread&nbsp;across her face.&nbsp; 



I leapt up to hug her and then realized she still hadn't said "yes." "So, is that a "yes?" I asked.&nbsp;



"Yes," she finally said.&nbsp;

Information

Due to the remote and rustic nature of Big Sur, housing options are extremely limited and book up one year in advance. We will provide shuttle service to and from the wedding (the&nbsp;closest location on a map: Lucia Lodge) from a limited number of stops. If you would like to arrange your own transportation, you will need to do so in advance as there is very limited cell-phone service.Those flying in from out of town can fly into SFO&nbsp;(~3 hours),&nbsp; or Monterey (~45 minutes to downtown Big Sur), or LAX (~5 hours).

Joseph William Sullivan IV is Michelle's younger (and favorite) brother. A Harvard scholar and current D.C. resident, "Joey"&nbsp;(as only Michelle is allowed to call him) is taking his Man of Honor responsibilities very seriously.

Swearing by his non-gluten free&nbsp;diet (with a side of sweet potatoes) and after formally pronouncing himself the&nbsp;groom's first life partner (pre-Michelle) it's anyone's guess what comes out of this writer/blogger/vlogger/tour guide/22nd century renaissance man's&nbsp;mouth as the couple's wedding day officiant.&nbsp;
