If you told either of us that we would meet our future spouse at a multidisciplinary geriatrics health clinic, we probably would’ve laughed but that is exactly where our story began. After all, nothing quite sets the romantic mood like some fall risk assessments and dementia screening. When Kelly noticed Mika’s bright orange KTM backpack (that he still lugs around to his clinic today), she was intrigued. It was an instant conversation spark; her dad Willie and brother Ryan both raced motocross as did Mika’s father Roger and uncle Pekka. She called her mom Tracy on the walk home and said that she may have just met her future husband. But timing didn’t quite work out initially and fast forward a couple years. Kelly DM’d Mika on instagram asking him to bring a friend (Mika brought Erik) and join her and Jenn for an evening on the duffy in Newport. Very smooth.. Kelly goes for what she wants! We discovered we were connected in much more than our shared motocross family roots: our injury struggles that motivated us towards careers in health care, our love for adventure, and our shared set of values and vision for the future. Our first trip together was to Maui, where we enjoyed the company of our close friends Kelby and Janiece. Since then, we’ve explored Finland, Estonia, Italy, France, Belgium and the Philippines. In January 2025, during a central coast road trip, Mika proposed overlooking the beach in Cambria after a visit to Hearst Castle, which also happens to be Kelly’s dream home. And here we are, excited, grateful for our family and friends, and ready for our next adventure!
