Our story starts in 2019 when we both started medical school at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado. Mikaela was known as "the girl on crutches" as she had recently torn her ACL the day before starting school, and Jonathan was known as "the guy who finishes tests early" given his exit from exams at least 30 minutes before the rest of the class.
It was a chance pairing in a lab class a few months into starting school that led to us meeting for the first time, where the running string of Monty Python jokes between us piqued both of our interests. A class Halloween party and an end of semester Christmas party brought the two of us back together, and allowed us to talk and get to know each other better. All this led to Jonathan inviting Mikaela to a New Year's Party that year at his friends' and roommates' house, where at the end of the night he asked Mikaela out on their first date.
Since then, we have grown and navigated through many adventures together. We supported each other through our first three years of medical school both in Parker and Greeley, Colorado, while also trying to find time to brew and drink a good beer, hike a mountain, and visit family and friends in Arizona and throughout Colorado.
Our greatest adventure then started while on a hike at Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, Colorado in May 2022. This hike almost didn't happen due to a late spring snowfall that happened the day before and Mikaela forgetting to pack her hiking boots (which she still maintains she has never done before...). While taking a snack break on the hike, with the reservoir down below and the Rocky Mountains behind, Jonathan got down on one knee and Mikaela had the great joy of saying yes to marrying her best friend.
We now face the exciting challenge of finishing our final year of medical school and applying to anesthesia residencies for Jonathan and family medicine residencies for Mikaela. We are so excited to celebrate the start of our marriage with all of the great friends and family that have supported us both as individuals and as a couple.
