Roanoke and The New River Valley

Recommended Activities:
We have loved our last four years living in the Roanoke area and New River Valley. If you have some time to spend exploring, here is a list of activities we recommend.
Mill Mountain Star
Located about 15 minutes from downtown by car. The overlook from the star provides a great view of the Roanoke area. At Mill Mountain Park, you can also visit the Mill Mountain Zoo or access several walking trails.
Roanoke Pinball Museum
Only a five minute walk from our venue! Spend some time playing a variety of pinball machines.
McAfee Knob (and other area hikes!)
If you have the time, we highly recommend checking out McAfee Knob or any other part of the Virginia Triple Crown Loop on the Appalachian Trail. The hike to McAfee Knob (the most photographed spot on the Appalachian Trail!) is a strenuous 8.5 miles but provides an excellent vista.
If you're looking for shorter and easier hikes, we also recommend looking into Read Mountain Preserve (2 mi, approx. 15 minutes from the venue), Carvin's Cove Natural Reserve (many trails, approx. 20 minutes from the venue), Sharp Top and the Peaks of Otter area (1.5 miles, approx. 45 minutes from the venue), and Cascades National Recreation Trail (4 miles, approx. 1 hour from the venue).
