We had a lot of invisible string stories but as fate would have it, we didn't get to meet until half way through senior year at North Dakota State University. We were introduced by a mutual friend, via text on January 27, 2021 but before Mikayla could walk over to Sam's table he did his typical Irish Goodbye. So we didn't really meet in person until the beginning of February when we would hang out with our newly intertwined friend group. For the first few months, we were just really good friends. We would hang out with our friends quite often but never just the two of us, so it was hard to gauge how each other was feeling. When Sam found out that Mikayla was going to be moving to Colorado in a few months that sealed the deal for him to want to remain just friends. However, Mikayla was quite persistent and eventually Sam gave into the idea that long distance for a few months wouldn't be the worst idea. By May of 2021, we were talking everyday and hanging out more and more.
What we coined as our first official date is a Fargo Force game on May 21, 2021 where Sam actually ran as a truly can during one of the period breaks.
Fast forward a few months, we officially started dating on July 26, 2021 after being apart for the first 2 months of summer. We only had two weeks before Mikayla moved away so within that time span, we both introduced each other to our parents/families. Some people may say this is rushed (we might even say this too ;) ) but at the time it made perfect sense. Once Mikayla had officially moved away there were countless facetime dates where we would make dinner together or talk about random things for hours. We made it a point to visit each other at least once a month so S/O Frontier Airlines for the cheap flights to Denver.
Now here we are almost three years after our first date and Sam got down on one knee and proposed. He asked to go on a walk on our favorite trail in Edina on May 4, 2024. He then surprised me with a ring, my best friends popping out of the bushes to capture the moment and my parents visiting for a post-engagement celebration all in one day.
We are so excited to celebrate our love with everyone who has built us into the people that we are today. We are even more excited to see you in Marshall on May 31st to celebrate Mikayla officially becoming a Titcomb.
