Brett and Mikayla met at Concordia University Nebraska during college. They had known of each other throughout the years, but didn't become friends until senior year when Brett had a role in the Fall Play that Mikayla was Assistant Directing/Stage Managing.

During those two and a half months, Mikayla weaseled her way into Brett's life. She watched his favorite tv show, invited herself to play disc golf with him, teased him at rehearsal, asked for help on her Doctrine 2 homework (they were in the same class, which also helped Mikayla's plot), etc. Eventually, after hanging out for months, Brett finally asked Mikayla on a date at the beginning of November, and they were officially dating by Thanksgiving Break.

The pair came back to school after Christmas Break to face Student Teaching 1 & 2. For the eight weeks of Student Teaching 2, Brett and Mikayla were long distance- Mikayla in Las Vegas, Nevada and Brett in Baltimore, Maryland. They survived those eight weeks and ended up both taking jobs in the St. Louis, Missouri area, where they are only a blessed 30 minutes from each other.

Fast forward a year and a half later to when Brett proposed to Mikayla under the Gateway Arch on December 2, 2023!
