It all started with a text.

Mikenna was out of town with a friend when Ben messaged her, wishing her a safe and fun trip—and that simple message sparked everything. On the drive home, she told her friend that she might like him, though she wasn’t sure yet. Still, she felt God might have something planned.

They began talking almost every day about anything and everything. At their best friends’ wedding—where they were both in the bridal party—Ben asked her to dance. What she didn’t know at the time was that he had learned to dance just for her. Moments before she found this out, she had actually told her sister he was a stiff dancer. When she heard the truth, she thought it was the sweetest thing, and her feelings for him grew even stronger.

A week after Mikenna’s sister’s wedding, Ben asked for permission to date her. On December 22, 2024, after a game night with friends, he officially asked her out—and she said yes.

Their first date was ice skating on December 26, 2024. Not long after, on January 6, 2025—after losing every single game at Dave & Buster’s to her—Ben asked Mikenna to be his girlfriend, marking the official start of their relationship.

That year, Ben supported her decision to work at a summer camp in Anderson and visited her on weekends. On one of those visits, he decided to treat her to a very fancy restaurant. They sat down, already feeling a little out of place, but decided to try the food anyway. Mikenna spotted steak on the menu and ordered it… only to discover it was raw, thinly sliced steak served as an appetizer. Lesson learned: always choose the pasta.

The weekend after she returned home from camp, Ben asked Mikenna to marry him. She said yes.
