For the past four years, she has worked as a Registered Nurse at Children's Hospital Los Angeles on their transplant floor and intensive care unit.
by night: pediatric nurse
by day: Sleeping Snorlax
Things We Have in Common:
Apart from both being the babies in our families by five years, we share a love for volunteering with organizations that seek to serve children. Mikey has been involved with Camp del Corazon for eight years and Miki has volunteered with Painted Turtle for the past four years. These camps seek to grant children with various medical needs the opportunity to experience summer camp in (what we hope is) a low-risk environment. Both of these camps operate within California and serve children with medical conditions ranging from congenital heart diseases to kidney and liver transplants.
We also have a love for food and camping that will be capitalized on.
How We Differ:
whether the radio should be set to music or NPR
whether socks need to match
TV shows
The Olive Theory
iPhone & Android
how much salt needs to be added while cooking
Two people can take credit for introducing us to each other: Sherlock Ho and Connie Lau
One was the birthday boy and the other Miki's roommate. The story differs depending on who you ask. Miki is still convinced that conversation was only initiated after Mikey learned that she was a nurse and he started to recruit her as a volunteer for Camp del Corazon. Mikey sticks to his story that he fell in love with Miki's practicality - claiming she was dressed in a large sweater and sweats. Again, Miki refutes the fact that she actually wore sweats to a birthday party
The conversation continued over the making of a dessert pizza, and to be even more specific, Miki's love for Nutella. And from there, the onslaught of Argentinian s'mores, camping trips, and (lack of) rock-climbing began.
The story of our proposal has been one told many times, but in the event you would like to relive the moment with us, the following has been excerpted from Miki's previous writings:
It all started at dinner, when I found these cute little flyers featuring a "Poetry Scavenger Hunt" that was happening oh-look! How convenient, right now! in Santa Monica. The flyer featured a picture of William Shakespeare, telling us to find him at 7th and Broadway for our first clue. I immediately suggested to Mikey that we participate, falling for it hook, line, and sinker. He responded calmly, with the sage words that we enjoy our dinner first, but I did make him nervous by making the offbeat comment that nobody else had flyers on their table.
Various signs were posted throughout Santa Monica that would lead us to our end destination; however, I had difficulty finding the first two signs. I was pretty convinced that someone had dressed like William Shakespeare and was waiting on the aforementioned street corner; and when there was no such person, I immediately concluded that the security officer for the Big Blue Bus must be our guy. We actually had walked back to our car when Mikey suggested might we not try the scavenger hunt one more time? and he awkwardly had to guide me back to a lamppost that was conveniently located right in front of the restaurant where we had dinner.
We ended up behind Lifeguard Tower #14 where I found the final instructions to the riddle. When I saw that we had to submit our answer to an e-mail address, my thoughts were going, "Oh yea! What do you think we're going to win? A $50 gift card to Target?!" Slightly bemused and annoyed that Mikey wasn't helping me with this final riddle, I ended up the phrase of "Mulmarywil". After descrambling this into 'Wil you mary me', I was still completely unsuspicious. I hadn't comprehended what I had just said, instead thinking, "Why would anyone ask this – Valentine's Day was long past." When I turned to him to voice all these thoughts, that's when he got down on one knee.
My response? Sneaky.......
