Our Story

Mikki's Version:

Believe it or not, I had actually met Jonathan's parents a year and a half before Jonathan and I had met. I was just starting residency at Georgetown, when I got an email from a Moshe Levi from the hospital inviting me to a Shabbat dinner with other Jewish medical students and residents. Unfortunately, I had to work that night, but throughout my intern and second year of residency, I would get invited to shabbat lunches/dinners and holiday events through the Levis. They always had a way of making you feel included and part of a community.

So a year and a half goes by, and I get to know the Levis a little bit more. One day, I had casually asked Moshe and Marilyn if they knew of any nice Jewish guys in the area? They told me they knew no one...EXCEPT for their son who lived in the DC/Maryland area. I didn't know how to respond at first...I loved the Levis and I didn't want to ruin our relationship, so I said that was very nice...I mean I'm always open to making friends...

Couple of days later, I get a text from Marilyn saying that they are having a shabbat lunch with "people my age" and I should really try to come. It was my first Saturday off in a while, however, I said I would come for just an hour.

When I got to the Levis' house, there were about 10, 20-30 year old Jewish people there, one of which, was their son, Jonathan. Before Mrs. Levi brought out lunch, she tells the group that Jonathan and Mikki should sit in these 2 seats at the table, and then everyone else should just find their seats. I was like, "Oh boyyy".....

So we listen to his parents; we sat next to each other. Start talking. And I remember I didn't leave that lunch till 5 hours later..

I thought to myself: "man, I really enjoyed talking with him. He's really funny (we laughed a ton at the lunch)." And I thought he was very handsome. I couldn't stop smiling at the lunch. But how could I approach the Levis and be like, "Hey, I like your son! Can I have his number?" So I ended up talking to some friends and they were like, "why don't you just DM him or friend him on facebook?" So that's what I did...I friended him on facebook the next day, and then nothing!

Until about 2 and a half weeks later I get a facebook message request from Jonathan asking if I wanted to go out sometime. I was so excited, I couldn't believe it. We ended up going to Swingers (which was an indoor putt-putt bar in DC), and had the best time. I'll never forget that date.

Jonathan's Version:

I had never thought that when telling the story of meeting the love of my life that Drs. Moshe and Marilyn Levi would be front and center. I guess miracles do happen.

The sequence went as it always does: Parents trick son by inviting him to a 'lunch for young people' to set him up, boy meets girl, girl falls in love at first sight and messages boy on Facebook, boy loses to girl at mini-golf first date (and falls in love) and proposes 12 months later.

There have been so many amazing moments since I met Mikki and I can't wait to celebrate with all of you to create more amazing memories that will last a lifetime.
