All through Medieval times and the Early Modern Age, Norwich was the second largest city in England after London. Because of its isolation in East Anglia, Norwich was mostly bypassed by the Industrial Revolution, which enabled the city to retain its Tudor center and Medieval churches. Today, it claims to be the most complete medieval city in the UK, with its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, and medieval lanes.
Plus, it's the only English city set in a national park (the Norfolk Broads), boasting two Norman monuments, Norwich Cathedral and Norwich Castle. It is also England's first UNESCO City of Literature.
