Joseph Ng was born and raised in Hacienda Heights, a suburban community in Los Angeles County in the state of California, by a Godly couple: Raymond Ng and May Lam, who gave him a loving brother, Joshua Ng, two years after Joe was born. As Raymond and May left their hometown of Hong Kong to seek freedom and opportunities in America, they faced many challenges as young immigrants in a foreign country. Nevertheless, Raymond and May overcame each trial in life as they fearlessly pursued Christ and strengthened their faith in God. With Raymond and May as examples, Joe also put his faith in God and follows Jesus throughout his life. After graduating from UC Riverside, Joe moved to Colorado (where he found his new hobby of snowboarding) to start his automative career with Ford Credit. Later on, Joe transferred to the corporate strategy group with Ford Motor in Michigan with the focus on tech partnership. Joe is always thankful for Ford as the company sponsored his MBA, allowing Joe to graduate from Pepperdine in August 2019.
Mimi Trinh was born in Saigon, Vietnam and raised by a loving couple of Muoi Trinh and Mai Van with her older brother Phi Trinh. At the age of 15, Mimi came to America alone as an exchange student in high school to pursue her American dream: an Ivy League education. Growing up in a Buddhist family, this was the first time Mimi learned about Christianity thanks to her Godly host family (David and Kim Maloney) in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Throughout many trials in life, Mimi accepted God and became a Christ's follower. After graduating from Lynn University with a full scholarship, Mimi got her green card through the sponsorship of Kayne Anderson while getting her first master's degree in data science from Northwestern University. Later on, Mimi decided to go back to school full time to pursue her second master's degree and eventually graduated with an MBA from Yale in May 2021.
After graduation, Mimi relocated to Michigan for her first job post business school and met Joe through a dating app called Coffee Meats Bagel. Joe and Mimi had two virtual dates before they met in person because at that time, Mimi was visiting her family in Wisconsin while Joe was visiting his family in California. After the two video dates, Joe and Mimi had their first real (in-person) date at a restaurant called "Ford's Garage" in Dearborn, Michigan. As a Ford's employee, Joe was eligible for 10% discount. However, the young man was so mesmerized by Mimi that he forgot to ask for the discount. After dinner, Joe didn't want the date to end too soon, so he suggested a casual walk in the nearby trail. Mimi gladly agreed as she didn't want the date to end either. Throughout the stroll, Mimi was dropping many hints for Joe to take her hand, but he was clueless. At the end of the walk when it got dark, Mimi told Joe she was scared of the darkness. Joe understood the hint this time and reached out to hold her hand, telling Mimi that he would protect her and that she would be safe with him by her side. Joe and Mimi have been holding hands since then. Thanks to COVID, the young couple had an accelerated dating path in which they got to see each other everyday. Instead of a traditional proposal, Joe and Mimi exchanged love tokens, a Chinese tradition that symbolizes the promise to marriage.
Throughout their lives, Joe and Mimi have witnessed countless times the miracles of God and experienced His perfect, unconditional love firsthand. Therefore, the couple has decided to dedicate their wedding day to the Lord to honor Him first, honor their parents second, and then celebrate their love for one another.
