The fluorescent lights of Hamden High School hummed a monotonous tune as Mishanda Harper, a senior radiating confidence and popularity, breezed through the hallways. Torrin Leak, a wide-eyed freshman, was practically invisible in comparison. He'd watch her from his usual spot in the library, captivated by her infectious laughter and the way her friends stuck around her like she was the sun. He was smitten, but she, oblivious to his admiration, saw him as just another face in the freshman blur. Years flew by. Mishanda graduated, got married, and life took her on its winding path. Torrin, meanwhile, never quite forgot that girl with the dazzling smile. He'd occasionally catch glimpses of her around town, singing in gospel groups, at concerts and in passings of similar church settings but eventually he stopped seeing her around becoming just a memory. Then, fate intervened.One hot summer evening, Torrin found himself at a revival service at Mishanda's church. There she was, leading praise and worship, her voice soaring with passion. Torrin's jaw practically hit the floor. She was even more beautiful than he remembered, but... she's married? Lord, have mercy, he thought, trying to focus on the sermon while simultaneously battling the urge to stare at her. Weeks turned into months after that night. He would stop by and visit the church to fellowship and to look at her (CORNY LOL) Soon, Mishanda's marriage took a turn, leaving her separated with 2 small children but determined to start anew. Torrin, still single and (let's be honest) a little awkward, finally mustered the courage to speak to her. It started with a simple "hello" after service, then progressed to a brief conversation in the church parking lot. One day, feeling particularly bold (or maybe divinely inspired), Torrin slid into her DMs. He crafted the perfect message, a blend of witty banter and genuine interest. To his surprise, she responded! Their online chats quickly escalated, evolving into marathon phone calls that stretched late into the night. Five days later, Torrin, ever the gentleman, asked Mishanda to breakfast at IHOP. What they thought would be a quick bite turned into a six-hour conversation, fueled by pancakes, coffee, and an undeniable connection. They poured out their hearts, sharing dreams, fears, and past heartbreaks. They laughed until their sides ached, and by the time they finally left the restaurant, the sun was beaming yet preparing to set. They were secretly smitten. Head over heels. But they also knew this wasn't just a fleeting infatuation. This was something deeper, something that required prayer, patience, and a whole lot of faith. Their relationship blossomed, a beautiful tapestry woven with laughter, deep conversations, and shared spiritual journeys. fast forward, Mishanda would joined Torrin's mother's church, further solidifying their bond. But their path wasn't without its challenges. They faced loss, made sacrifices, and endured moments of doubt and uncertainty. There were tears, arguments, and even a couple of temporary breakups. Yet, through it all, their love proved resilient, drawing them back to each other time and time again. As 2024 drew to a close, Mishanda found herself seeking God's guidance about her future. Unbeknownst to her, Torrin was doing the same. And God, in His infinite wisdom, had a plan. He spoke to Torrin, giving him clear instructions and an undeniable sense of peace. On March 1st, 2025, the day of Mishanda's birthday party, Torrin along with her sister Monae, and daughter; Jakiaya gathered their loved ones for a surprise celebration. With a heart overflowing with love and a touch of nervous excitement, he dropped to one knee, the room erupting in gasps and cheers. Tears streamed down Mishanda's face as she nodded yes, her voice caught in her throat. Their journey had been anything but predictable, a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and a love that defied the odds. And now, as they planned their wedding, a joyful anticipation fills the air. August 22nd, 2025, will be a day to remember. It will be the day Mishanda Harper, the girl who once unknowingly captured a freshman's heart, will finally say "I do" to Torrin Leak.
