Their story began in high school in 1985. Ronnie was a senior at Westchester High School and Miyana was a sophomore at Lynwood High School. They met through their older sisters, Jackie and Miyoshi, who have been BFFs since college. Ronnie recalls always asking Miyoshi about Miyana but was told that he was too old for her. Miyana always thought Ronnie was very handsome with the nicest smile and dimples but was cautious that he may have been a playboy. They eventually connected and began to talk over the phone off and on from time to time. Ronnie believed Miyana was trying to play hard to get. They finally went on their first date to Miyana’s Homecoming Dance. Eventually, they grew apart but do not agree with the reason why that occurred. Miyana recalls Ronnie being the big basketball star on campus so he was not “checkin’ for a hood girl from Lynwood”. Ronnie recalls that Miyana ghosted him for another guy.

As the years progressed, Miyana went away to college in Louisiana and Ronnie moved to Texas. Ronnie says he always thought of Miyana. He would get updates about her from her sister, Miyoshi. Ronnie says, “she was my type! I can truly say I have always wanted Miyana. I want her even more today.” Miyana says “I never forgot about Ronnie. However, he was married and we lost touch so I had to remove him from my mind. As far as I knew, he was inaccessible.”

Life went on and they lived their respective lives until June 2022, while Jackie was in town attending Miyoshi’s 60th birthday party. Jackie asked Miyana if she were single. Once she discovered she was indeed single, she made it her goal to reconnect Ronnie and Miyana. So, she Face-Timed Ronnie and said, “look who I found!”. Jackie gave Ronnie’s number to Miyana so they could speak later. A few days later, Miyana called Ronnie to catch up and they have talked to each other every day since that initial call. Ronnie says, “the more we talked, the more I realized she was the woman that I needed in my life. Of course, we are talking about Miyana, so it took several months for her to realize that I was a man of my word and I meant it when I said to her YOU DO IT FOR ME!” Miyana recalls that she had to pray HARD about Ronnie saying, “I had been single for a long time and had actually come to the resolve that I would not get married and was okay with it. So, when Ronnie began to talk about marrying me, I was a skeptic. I had heard it all before and would not put myself in a situation where I would be hurt or disappointed again. The more I prayed, the more God affirmed in my spirit that He had sent Ronnie back to me.”

On November 14, 2022, on a gondola ride in Newport Beach, Ronnie proposed to Miyana and she said YES! Once Miyana retires in October 2025, she will move to Houston where they will establish their home together. They share their love of football, firearms and movies. They love to try new adventures and create “first-time” memories and experiences together. Miyana says, “Ronnie is the love of my life that I never knew I would find. I cannot imagine being without him.” Ronnie ends with saying, “Miyana feels like home. I can talk to her about anything and know she will not judge me. She supports me. She is my peace. SHE DOES IT FOR ME! I am cherishing every moment.”
