More explanation of the ceremony:

The Nikkah ceremony is the moment when a Muslim couple gets married. It involves them agreeing to the marriage, the groom giving the bride a mehr (gift), and signing a contract. The imam leads the ceremony, offers a prayer.

It's a simple but important ceremony that marks the beginning of their marriage under Islamic traditions.

What is Nikkah?

Nikkah is the Islamic marriage ceremony, where a Muslim man and woman officially get married according to Islamic traditions.

What Happens in a Nikkah Ceremony?

The Marriage Contract

At the core of the Nikkah is the marriage contract. It’s a formal agreement between the bride and groom, where both of them say “yes” to the marriage. This is the official promise to become husband and wife.

Mahr (Dowry)

The groom gives the bride a mahr, which is a gift or dowry. It can be money, jewelry, or something meaningful. This is a requirement in Islam and represents respect and commitment from the groom to the bride.

Witnesses

For the Nikkah to be official, at least two witnesses (usually men) need to be present. These witnesses confirm that both the bride and groom agreed to the marriage.

How the Ceremony Works:

Marriage Sermon (Khutbah)

The ceremony usually starts with a short speech from an imam (a religious leader). The imam talks about marriage in Islam, sometimes sharing verses from the Quran or sayings of Prophet Muhammed, peace and blessings be upon him.

Offer and Acceptance

The imam asks the bride and groom if they agree to marry each other. The groom says, "I accept," and the bride says, "I accept." This is the official part where they agree to the marriage.

Signing the Marriage Contract

The bride and groom, along with their witnesses, sign the marriage contract, making the marriage official.

A Prayer for Blessings

Finally, the imam says a prayer, asking for blessings on the couple’s marriage and their life together.
