We can't wait to host you in one of our most favorite places!
Pittsburgh is a city full of little neighborhoods connected by many, many bridges. We hope you find time to stop at one of the 40 craft breweries throughout the city, or take a ride on the Gateway Clipper for a quick history of the Burgh. If you rent a car, be sure to take I-376 into the city and go through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. The view that waits for you on the other side is totally worth the inexplicable bottle neck you'll hit before entering the tunnel.
Making a trip of it? Here are some of our favorite places in some of our favorite neighborhoods. Everything is about 15 to 20 minutes from the hotel.
The Cultural District is home to theaters and restaurants. Check back here periodically, as we'll be adding happenings around town closer to the wedding. You can always head to the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. If you find your self "in town", we recommend checking out David's favorite, Nicky's Thai Kitchen, for some yummy Pad Thai or Molly's favorite, Meat and Potatoes, for a good cocktail and great food.
A visit to The Strip is a great way to spend the day. Start with breakfast at either Cafe Raymond or Pamela's Diner. Both have amazing pancakes and a really great all around breakfast. Walk up and down Penn avenue and find all the Yinzer gear you need, stop in at Penn Mac to sample some cheese, and taste PA made liquors at PA Libations. You can also spend some time in the Heinz History Center to check out King Friday's Castle and X the Owl's tree from Mister Roger's Neighborhood! Give your self a few hours to stroll, eat, and drink. Other fun stops are:
Cinderlands - good food and good beer
DiAnoia's -get the gnocchi! Reservations recommended!!
Coop de Ville - Games, duckpin bowling, tiki drinks
Park in Station Square and take the incline to Mount Washington for a spectacular view! If you are staying for drinks or dinner, there's plenty to offer here - both upscale and casual. We love The Summit for their Old Fashioneds. Or head to Bigham Tavern for some good wings, a Pittsburgh Salad (Fries and cheese on top) and a solid beer list.
Tons of gems live on the North Side of the city. Between Acrisure Field (it is still Heinz field to us) and PNC Park, you'll find a strip of bars and restaurants right along the river. You can also access the river walk from here and check out the statue of Mr. Rogers. Head a few streets off of the river and you'll hit some great spots that will gobble up some of your time. Here are the highlights:
City of Asylum - Not just a bookstore - exiled writers are invited to stay here. Check the website as there are tons of events, concerts, screenings, and readings happening each week. Plus there's a great little restaurant here as well!
The Andy Warhol Museum - Houses the largest collection of Warhol art and archives in the world.
Yinzer tip: Fridays are half price from 5-10. If you are traveling with kiddos, here are two fun stops for your Pittsburgh tour:
Yinzer tip: Bring the swimsuits and towels for the kids to take advantage of the water exhibit!
The National Aviary - If you plan ahead, you can schedule an experience with the penguins or a sloth.
This trendy neighborhood if full of cute shops, has plenty of quality places to eat and drink, and is full of history. Stephen Foster was born here and his father charted the street plans in 1814.
Grab lunch or dinner at The Abbey, where Molly and David had their first date back in 2019. Across the street is Allegheny Cemetery and if you are up for some walking, you can schedule a tour. It will take you past Stephen Foster's grave, along with other famous Pittsburghers who are buried there.
Other great stops are:
Arsenal Bowl - fun, retro bowling alley with lots of specials throughout the week and weekend.
Yinzer tip: All you can bowl on Fridays is from 9-midnight. The DJ is always great. No reservations are accepted so get in line early!
