In 2017, Molly and David met in the NC State marching band clarinet section when Molly was a freshman and David was a sophomore. They didn't initially talk to each other a lot, but they were in the same rank and shared a lot of the same friends. In the fall of 2019, Molly and David became close friends when they moved to the same off campus apartment complex. They began carpooling to marching band rehearsals and football games, having scary movie nights with their bestie Liv, and collecting many sub points from Harris Teeter.

In March 2020 when NC State students were thrilled to have an extended spring break, Molly offered David the chance to stay at her parents' house for a few nights until the pandemic blew over. Little did they know, David would end up finishing his final college semester in "The Bunker." During this time, David got to eat, drink, and do puzzles with Molly, her parents, and her cousin Abby.

After The Bunker, on Molly's 22nd birthday, David took Molly to her favorite restaurant, the IHOP in Garner. Wanting to make the night more special, David took her to see Christmas lights in the far away town of Wendell. On their way back, they got in a minor car accident, and they both realized how much they truly cared for each other. Less than two weeks later, they began dating and have been inseparable ever since.
