Jeanette Chan - Maid of Honor
Jeanette (Jenito the "Smart One"). Jen is the youngest of the four Chan siblings and the one we refer to as little miss “smarty pants”. She has always been the intelligent one in the family who can read and do complicated math faster in her mind than anyone we know. She often corrects my essays, music lyrics while I am still singing, and grammar (even though I was the one who taught her basic English when she was a kid). She is a gifted child and one with a very good temper. Planning a wedding requires a lot of time and effort. However, with Jeanette by my side, I know I do not have to worry because no matter what I want or need (or demand,😁), she would fulfill my request in a heartbeat (even after watching me try on over fifty wedding dresses). I know I can count on Jeanette any time of any day. She is my most reliable person AND the only girl I know (besides me) who can outdrink a lot of boys. Jeanette, my baby sister and MOH!
Calvin Kwong - Best man
Calvin (Cow-fun). The epitome of a right hand man. He's the chip to the dip, the lime after the tequila, and the pedialyte when you're hungover. Although I am the older brother, he's been looking out for me since day 1. We've been through dumb things together as we grew up, and we are the men we are today because of it all. I remember when we were kids, he would always be the one to follow me to the creepiest basement in the world when we had to go restart the power box, listen to me jamming out to Aerosmith (on repeat) when I was showering, and pretend that my food tastes good when I was practicing to cook for Monica. He is the most selfless person I know. His actions speaks louder than words as he is the type of man who will always pour two shots so that you will never drink alone. He is the perfect man to lead my groomsmen into battle, build an alliance with the bridesmaids, and help me win my bride! Calvin Kwong, my brother, my best man.
Victor Huynh - Co-Best Man
Victor (Vick). I have one too many embarassing moments with this man, and it keeps getting worse everytime we see each other. Many long nights were spent trying to figure out how the hell we were going to go from our college party life days to becoming doctors one day. I can vividly remember making the late-night drive up and down the Hwy I-5, blasting music loud as it can be, listening to Nujabes, looking at the stars, and praying that it will all be worth it in the end! We literally drove up and down the coast with a pocket full of cash, staying in cheap motels, trying to find a school that had open spots for the last two science classes we needed to finish up our postbac before we applied to our doctorate programs. We’ve DEFINITELY struggled together and pulled each other up in desperate times. They say the best of friends are not those who have been with you the longest, but those who have been through battles with you! He is one of those friends to me. Thanks for dreaming with me. Doctor Victor Huynh, my co-best man.
Lily Cun - Matron of Honor
Lily (Ta-Ta). Like “Lily and Robyn” from HIMYM, Lily is my partner-in-crime and one of the best friends I am fortunate to have. When we're together, think double trouble! We shared many funny, embarrassing memories growing up. Friends since sixth grade, Lily is the most generous girl I know (she threw/paid for an engagement dinner AND surprise party for Mike and I after we got engaged). She also helped Mike execute the fairytale proposal and tricked me into getting acyclic nails. Over the past two decades, we’ve worked together as doctor’s assistants, Chemistry partners, and even did labor intensive work painting a medical office in Chinatown for 15hrs. What heightened our friendship was really the crazy adventures we shared: underage clubbing, learning to drive, and experiencing our first "black out" moments together on my 21st birthday. She's the girl who would down a bottle of tequila with me. So excited to have this beauty stand by my side! Lily, my co-MOH and sister from another mother!
Sophia Pang - Bridesmaid
Sophia (Sophie). The first time we met in college, it took us 10 seconds to start laughing. Right then, I knew this girl and I would become VERY close friends. We quickly bonded when we studied abroad in Hong Kong over our obsessions with Asian dramas, while binged eating everything AND anything we saw during our wild foodie adventures. Sophie is the girl I travelled most with to HK, Taiwan, Thailand, Canada, LA, and Portland. This girl packs our schedules and keeps us on our toes for 14 straight hrs so that we NEVER miss anything! She is the sweetest girl I know! She showed up at my house when I was stressed with a nursing exit exam and took me out to dessert as a distraction to calm my nerves. She also buys me amazing beauty products for my skin because she knows the hospital sanitizers dries my hands and got me the best rated foot massager to pamper my feet after those 12-hr shifts. No words could express how lucky I am to have met this special girl with a heart-of-gold. Sophia, my travel buddy and bridesmaid!
Victor Ren - Groomsman
Victor (Renster). Give him a couple of shots and his dance move list multiplies. He will show you his stanky legg, teach you how to dougie, and shuffle with you all night long! Ren is a stand-up guy, always loyal to his closest friends, and will drop everything to answer the call. I am never bored when this guy is around because I swear he is the most interesting man in the world. We’ve shared many moments of laughter, tears, and joy together in the last 13 years. Fact: when I locked myself away for months studying for my board certification exams, he randomly knocked on my door, smiled, gave me a "good-luck" pineapple, and left. Needless to say, I passed the test the next week. Opening the pineapple that very night, my-o-my, it was the sweetest damn pineapple in the whole world. Thanks for helping me be VICTORious 😉! I can always count on Ren to pull through. He is a born entertainer, and truly one of a kind. Lucky to call this man as one of the best homies. Victor Ren, my groomsman.
Kevin Kwok - Groomsman
Kevin (old man). This man used to be wild! My first friend when I moved to Davis for college! I still remember the feeling on that first week of moving in to the fourth floor of our dorms: 18, excited (but kind of nervous being apart from everything at home, including my girlfriend), didn't know what life had in store, but ready to conquer the world! Kevin was one of the first people to make introductions, and I thought, "wow, what a nice guy." Though he often led our group to wrong directions and bad decisions, we still made it out of college alive (haha!). It’s funny because I still remember the exact fit that he used to wear when he was looking for trouble: bright red leather jacket, black shirt, spiked hair, and no prescription glasses. Now, he fashions a suit and tie and is one of the most successful person I know, but trust me, hand the man a bottle of whiskey and watch the team spiral into the rabbit hole. Kevin Kwok, my groomsman.
Anita Chan - Bridesmaid
Anita (Nita). Anita is the oldest sibling in our family. She is strong-willed, independent, and also very tough (haha). She is caring when it comes to making sure I am fed because I am ALWAYS hungry if anyone does not know that already. Anita also downloaded all the Yiruma piano songs I liked even though she never heard them before and got the song playlist on point during Mike’s surprised proposal for me (had me feeling all types of emotions). She is also very competitive. Believe it or not, we are both sisters who are registered nurses working at rivalry hospitals: UCSF vs Stanford, lol. Besides her competitive side, she likes to cook, dance, and travel. She is a Zumba instructor at 24-hour Fitness so for those of you who are interested in dancing, sign up for her class! Or challenge her to the dance floor, I dare you... haha. Glad to have my sister by my side as I marry my mister. Anita, my bridesmaid!
Ben Ng - Groomsman
Ben (Ben-Jai). Always there for every single one of my accomplishments. Needless to say, this man must be by my side on my biggest day when I marry the love of my life! Grateful to have this man as one of my boys because he will always be there for you when you need him the most. When we moved out the dorms and into the apartment together, Ben would make sure that Monica and I always come back for our mandatory family dinner where he would stir up some Lee-Kum-Kee chicken wings and lap-cherng rice! In a home (away-from-home), it provided a feeling of stability and foundation for me to grow. He's been there to support me through all my accomplishments, and he is the second loudest person I know (after Monica!) so seeing him and Mon cheer the loudest at my graduation reminded me that true friends make the greatest effort to celebrate your life's biggest accomplishments. Can't wait to have him on my sidelines! Ben Ng, my groomsman.
Angela Vuong - Bridesmaid
Angela (AN-ge-LA). This girl and I have known each other for almost a decade now since our study abroad trip in Hong Kong. She is generous, silly, and wild! She is an extrovert and very easy to talk to. Angela is like the mother in our study abroad group who schedules the date of our hang outs, sends out reminders, makes the reservations, hydrates us after we drink too much, and introduces me to great beauty products. She also brings me back cool beauty stuff and snacks from her Asia trips! She is very fun to party with especially during our EDC raving days in Vegas, clubbing nights in the city and in Asia, and traveling on random weekend for our get-away trips. I feel fortunate to have Angela by my side on the biggest day of my life because I know when it comes to getting organized and staying on time, she's my girl and will help keep the wedding running smooth. Super dependable! Angela, my bridesmaid!
Patrick Chan - Groomsman
Patrick the Star. Future brother-in-law. Crazy to say that I've known him for almost half his life because Monica and I have been in a relationship for THAT long. 🙈! I’ve watched him grow and progress to be the man he is today! Over the last couple of years, Calvin and I have developed a strong brotherhood with Patrick that spawned over beer, whiskey, and fishing. One day, we will catch the monster trophy fish together! Quite a few years back, I had a special conversation with Pat. I could never forget it because, even though it was said nonchalantly and in the cool manner of which Patrick always carries himself, it meant something pretty significant to me. When revealing my plans to finally propose to Monica, he said, "Mike, even though you guys aren't married yet, you are already a brother to me." Thanks for welcoming me into the family since day 1! Patrick, my groomsman.
Jessica Kwong - Bridesmaid
Jessica (Jess). Over the past 13 years, I have seen Jess grow into a fine young lady. I've known her for more than half her life now since she was a little girl in third grade wearing big, round glasses and a headband in her cute little private school uniform. Then, over the years, I watched her play volleyball and eventually outgrow me, lol. She is very sweet and has many similar traits to Mike such as likes to challenge people to drink and talks and even looks like him (think girl version of Mike) haha. Although I already have two sisters, I am happy to gain another sister who happens to be more girly than the other two. Jess could be the sister I do girly things with like get our nails done, talk about beauty products, and shop for new wardrobes. She also likes to go happy hour (one of my favorite times of the day). Glad Jess will be standing by our side to witness the M&Ms finally tying the knot after all these years. Jessica, my sister and bridesmaid!
Dom Dao - Personal Entourage
Dom-inn-ique. "We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools." No doubt one of my closest boys. He brings out the best (and worst) of us all. He lives his life without any care of who may be watching, and nothing gets in his way of enjoying the moment. Fun fact #1: just when you think he's knocked out after drinking hard (since he won't answer your questions anymore); if you play a song, he will start off mumble-singing, but by the end of the 2-3 min, he will be either up and dancing or singing at the top of his lungs (especially if it's Britney Spears). Fun fact #2: he has kept an empty GIN bottle for the last 10 years. Why, you may ask? Because one day when Monica was on her 6-month study abroad trip, we bro-challenged each other that we would not stop till the last drop. I quit Gin now, and block out all thoughts of Gin, but the memories with Dom are forever. Dom, my Personal Entourage.
Allison Chan - Personal Entourage
Allison (Ali-ba-ba). This girl knows me best both inside and out. Born as my cousin but grew up to be my frenemy, best friend, and sister, Allison is the person I call whenever I am bored or need someone to talk to to express my joy or frustrations. She is my most trusted person and the one I needed growing up because we literally went through hell and back. This is why we refer to each other as "the worm in our stomach" (our inside joke). But really, I learned all the cool phrases and cuss words from Allison (my role model growing up AND bad influence at the same time! lol). She bought me my first EDC ticket for my b-day and introduced me into THAT party world. So happy to have my favorite person be a part of our wedding; the one to calm my nerves and capture those funny, "Oh no you didn't “real” Kodak moments. She will be the one telling the groom, his bride is coming! Allison, my Personal Entourage!
