After much unsuccessful online and traditional dating in the central Maryland area, Monica expanded her online dating profile to pull profiles from a wider geographic range. That's when Roger's profile popped into her feed in January 2023. Although he lived 4 hours away, she liked what she saw: A tall cutie who was Catholic, an entrepreneur, interested in a serious relationship, a Penn State grad, and a fan of Seinfeld (sense of humor matters!). The two started texting, then talking -- it became evident that they would have to meet soon! So they did, in historic downtown Chambersburg, Pa, a somewhat central meeting point for the two.
Their meeting was electric and eventful! Full of butterflies, hijinks, and mishaps, including Roger's truck breaking down (and Monica helping him push it up a slight grade to an area where the tow truck could grab it -- now that's love, yes?), Monica going the wrong way down a one way street and getting honked at by all of Chambersburg, and Roger getting a call from a friend reporting that Roger's antique shop was on fire (it was the building over, thank God). Through it all, they shared many laughs, tender moments, a Honduran dinner, and a visit to the best antique book shop they'd ever experienced.
After several months of long distance dating, Monica moved to Falls Creek, Pa., in January 2024 to be with Roger, work remotely, and help with the antique business. Their love, underpinned by shared values and interests, grew and grew. Until Roger proposed during a getaway to Rockland, Maine for the Lobster Festival in August 2024. After they walked the mile-long breakwater to Breakwater Lighthouse, he got down on one knee and placed quite an impressive rock on Monica's finger (the ring has been dubbed The Rock of Rockland!). She was speechless; he was crying and laughing. Words cannot describe this most beautiful, surreal moment. A professional photographer (unplanned!) was nearby and offered to take photos as the newly engaged couple walked back to the shore.
