What should we do for accommodations?
Due to the destination style and many of you planning to extend your vacation either before or after the wedding, we have not made any formal arrangements for your stay.
We recommend looking at the venue location (Hacienda Sitio de Mata, in Turrialba, Costa Rica) and identifying nearby airbnbs or hotels sooner rather than later. We had added a few options for you in the Travel // Viaje section.
For our immediate family, we are staying at a local hotel called Turrilatico but unfortunately they are very small and only have enough space for immediate family (and barely ;) )
What do you recommend for travel to and from the airport?
You have a few options, but the easiest/less stressful (in our opinion) would be renting a car.
There are numerous travel agencies where you can hire a driver, which is a great experience, but difficult/more expensive in the long run as you will have to move around at least a few times (to and from your air bnb/hotel, airport, restaurants, grocery stores, whatever additional activities/ travel you plan).
There are also red taxis in every major city that you can use to travel around, but depending on how remote your location is they may not be easy to find (and they definitely only speak Spanish :D)
Does Costa Rica have Uber?
Yes, and in major cities they will be your cheapest option for travel. However, in more rural locations (i.e. near the venue) there may not be any drivers.
Additionally, just as an FYI, technically uber is illegal there as the country has their specific red taxi service. So if you do this, they often ask (in Spanish ;) ) to sit in the front so they don't get stopped by cops for "illegal taxi service) (lol.)
Which airport should I fly into?
For the venue, we recommend you fly into Alajuela (San Jose) at SJO airport.
There is another (normally more expensive) option that is closer to the beach who are interested in that, the code of the airport is LIR (Liberia, Costa Rica Airport).
What days should I travel?
We recommend traveling at least 2 days before the wedding (the 28th) and staying in an airbnb or hotel nearby the airport for ease. Then, on the 29th, we recommend traveling to the local city (Turrialba) and staying in a hotel or airbnb closer to the venue and checking out on the 31st or later, then returning to San Jose airport, OR, extend your travel and enjoy all that Costa Rica has to offer :)
