The story of how two people fell in love

So, how did Spencer and Monique meet?A question we have been asked a hundred times. Our answer? Through mutual friends. We both know a lot of people, so meeting through mutual friends was never something that was questioned by anyone. It made perfect sense! What really happened? Well, it all started early in 2014 when one of Monique's friends really wanted her to find someone to be with, so they could live out all the things you see in the movies. Double dates, lifelong friends, babies, and eventually marriage. That same friend "borrowed" Monique's phone one night at their apartment and created an online dating profile. Although Monique had little to no interest in online dating, she was a little curious. There was a lot of scrolling and not seeing anything that was very interesting at all, until there was. Monique came across a picture of a guy hugging his dog. She clicked on the profile and found it to be very simple. It had hardly anything at all on it. Again, Monique was curious, so she sent him a message and to her surprise he responded. That's right! Spencer and Monique met online!

Time to spill the beans....if you haven't already guessed it.

A spring day at Lindenwood park in Fargo, that's where we were supposed to meet up for the first time. Spencer will tell you that I drove right by him with no intentions on stopping, but this is my version of the story! After a month or so of texting back and forth we decided we should finally meet in person. The plan was to meet at Lindenwood park to take our dogs for a walk and get to know each other a little bit. Spencer told me where he would be and what kind of vehicle he would be in. I got to the park and saw the vehicle sitting right where he said it would be near the entrance of the park. I did in fact drive right by him, but only to get to the nearest parking lot to find a place to stop. It was a perfect spring day for a walk with our dogs. We walked around for quite a while and got a chance to get to know each other a little bit. Everything went better than I ever could've expected. That same night I deleted my online profile, because I knew from the moment I met Spencer that he was the one I wanted to be with. Sounds cheesy, huh? But, sometimes you just know when something feels right. The next morning I woke up to a text from Spencer, and that's officially where our story begins.

Where it all began

Spencer and I started dating on July 27, 2014. We spent every day together! Each night Spencer and I would have dinner and go back to Spencer's house to watch Seinfeld. Little did Spencer know that I hate Seinfeld...but I wanted to spend time with him, so I sat through it for an hour every night before I went home. I have to admit I did laugh here and there, so I can see why Spencer thought I liked the show. Haha. I finally told him the truth about a year later. In December of 2014 Spencer asked me to move in with him. We decided we were going to get through the holidays and winter and move in together in April or May of 2015. On March 24, 2015 Spencer called me on my day off to tell me there was an accident at work. He had 1,300lbs of metal tubing fall on him and he was on his way to the ER. I immediately jumped up and got in the car to head to the ER. That is also the day I moved in with Spencer, a couple months earlier than planned and a bit unexpected. Moving in with Spencer was an experience I wasn't sure if I was ready for at the time, but I'm always up for new experiences. I went from living on my own with my dog and nothing else to worry about to moving in with Spencer and everything changing in a matter of a few hours. I moved into a house with Spencer and his dog when he literally couldn't get out of bed or do anything. I took on the challenge of taking care of another person, 2 dogs, and a house that wasn't mine. Spencer said I'd last 3 months max...boy was he wrong!

The start of dating

It was around October 2017, on a Saturday, when Spencer and I had talked about buying a house in a fews years after Spencer turned 30. He was 26 at the time. 30 was going to be Spencer's big year for things and when he was going to start making big life changes. On Sunday, that same weekend, Spencer and I got in the car and were going to get something to eat, but that's not what happened. We drove into a random neighborhood and pulled into a driveway of a house with a for sale sign in the yard. I asked Spencer what we were doing and he said, "I just want to see something". Very confused, I got out of the car with him and we wondered around the property. When we were leaving I asked him why we had to go look at that house. His response was, "I know someone interested in it". It was Spencer. Spencer wanted to buy the house we went to go look at. The next day, Monday, we got into the house with a realtor and put in an offer. We hadn't even talked to a bank yet! Our offer was accepted and, unexpectedly, we had just bought our forever home, or garage, it depends on which one of us you ask. Did we just decide on spending the rest of our lives together in a matter of a couple days, or deep down, did we know all along?

Deciding on forever? 

Remember when I said Spencer's big year was going to be when he turned 30? Well buying a house at age 30 didn't work out for him, but how about starting a family? Spencer had told me very early on in our relationship that he didn't want kids until he was at least 30. He wanted to be ready to take care of a child and financially stable. Being younger than Spencer by a few years, I was fully on board with that decision. February 16, 2021 on Spencer's 30th birthday, I told him I was pregnant! On October 5, 2021 we welcomed our daughter, Ava, into the world. Our lives have never been the same and we wouldn't have it any other way! Ava is the best thing to ever happen to us and sometimes it's hard to even remember what life was like before she was here.

Starting a family

Our 10 year anniversary, July 27 2024, was coming up, so we wanted to enjoy the special day together. I took the day before our anniversary off of work to spend the whole day with Spencer. Our actual anniversary day was going to be spent at the Air Show with family and friends, so we decided to celebrate a day early. Spencer kept asking what I wanted to do that day and I really had no ideas, other than being together. I told him that he could decide and whatever he came up with I would be happy with. He asked if I wanted to have pictures taken to mark a milestone in our relationship. I thought it was a little weird because Spencer HATES pictures and we had family pictures coming up in a couple months. But, it was a special day and he did all the planning, so I was more than happy to get pictures done on a very hot, humid, day in July... He drove Ava, the dogs, and I to Lindenwood and said that is where we were going to take pictures. How cute is he to plan pictures for our 10 year anniversary in the exact place where our story started?! We even parked in the same spot he was parked when I drove right by him, 10 years earlier. We were getting tons of pictures. Some of Ava, some of Spencer and I, some of all of us. We did it all! It was about an hour into the photoshoot and I was about over the picture taking in the July heat when I turned around to find Spencer down on one knee with a ring in his hand. He planned our early anniversary day with a proposal in the same park we met at with our dogs 10 years earlier!

Going on a decade

Well, that's our story of how two people fell in love! Everyone's story is different. Our forever was officially decided 9 years 364 days into our relationship...not that anyone is counting... We did a lot of things backwards to some, but perfect to us. Spencer and I do a lot of things and make a lot of decisions unexpectedly, and I guess that's just the way things are always going to be, because it works for us. Every day is an adventure! Our wedding day is just going to be the start of another one!

Smoking is not permitted at any other location. This includes cigarettes and vaping. Safety: Lone Oak Farm does not allow drugs, firearms or possession of weapons, physical violence and/or ill behavior is not tolerated. Event staff have the right to remove any guest from the event for the safety of others in attendance Stay: Overnight lodging is not allowed on Lone Oak Farm property.&nbsp;Tents, campers, ice castles, etc are not allowed on the venue property. There are camping options close to Lone Oak Farm. Damage: Damage includes, but is not limited to, extraordinary clean-up, damage, or destruction to any of the property at Lone Oak Farm. This includes all buildings and outdoor property. Please throw away your trash when you are finished and keep the property clean. Beverage Service: Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on the venue property is only allowed if it was purchased at the venue bar and served by the Lone Oak Farm bartenders.&nbsp;Lone Oak Farm bar service team have the right to refuse to serve any intoxicated guest per their discretion.
