Our Story

How we met

Mason Helberg and Monique Portillo met each other in the Church of Victory Outreach Huntington Beach. Although, neither one of them knows the exact date. Mason remembers Monique from a Christmas Event in 2023, and Monique remembers Mason from a preaching he did in early 2024. So, it was somewhere around then. Mason attests that he clearly remembers Monique coming to the altar call during his preaching on Romans Road to Salvation and states that he “saw her broken at the altar.” Not long after that, Mason and Monique were able to have dinner with each other and a couple others from church at her house and they began talking. On October 5th, 2024. Mason grabbed some flowers and a card and decided, after praying about it quite a bit, to make it official. Monique said “Yes.” It was the first time, but wouldn’t be the last time she would say yes to him (which is the reason for you reading this now). Sometime passed, prayers were prayed, valleys were endured, and mountain tops conquered. One year after Monique said yes the first time, she said it again. Mason planned, prepared, and prayed without letting Monique find out. He had bought a ring, got some church family to help out (He wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without them), and popped the question on the evening of Sunday October 5th, 2025. As you’re reading this, Mason & Monique would like to thank God for their salvations and miracle working power. It’s a miracle they’re together. And, they would also like to thank everyone who has invested into their journey and believed. God bless you, and as always, Jesus Loves You.
