The Outdoor Art Club

Nestled in the heart of downtown Mill Valley, the Outdoor Art Club is a nonprofit women’s organization founded in 1902. Inspired by the “City Beautiful” urban design movement of the 1890s, its 35 founding members sought to promote the civic value of public parks and natural outdoor spaces. Today, the club continues to advocate for conservation, open space preservation, and support of the cultural arts, enhancing the vitality of the Mill Valley community. The venue’s clubhouse, a Registered Historical Landmark designed in 1904 by renowned architect Bernard Maybeck, provides a charming and historic setting for our wedding. With its rich history of environmental conservation and civic engagement, the Outdoor Art Club has been a cornerstone of Mill Valley, hosting significant community projects and cultural events for over a century. Mill Valley and the Outdoor Art Club hold a deep personal significance for us. Miles' late grandparents were devoted community members and volunteers in Mill Valley. His grandmother was a proud member of the women's club, while his late grandfather, a local contractor, contributed to the construction of many buildings throughout town. His grandfather played a key role in the renovation of the Mill Valley Lumber Yard and built the replica of the Gravity Car in town. Later in life, he was honored by the City of Mill Valley for his work and dedicated volunteerism, leaving a legacy that is close to our hearts. Celebrating our wedding here connects our past with our future, surrounded by the love and memories of those who came before us.

About the Venue

Morgan and Miles met at a party on a summer evening in Berkeley, just before their senior year of college. Morgan was saying goodbye to her friends when Miles walked into the room. Something about him caught her attention, and she decided to stay a little longer. They found each other and were lost in conversation in no time. They talked about art, travel, music, and school, and then their time together was cut short by friends eager to leave for the night. They didn't exchange numbers, but Morgan found Miles on Facebook a few days later and mustered the courage to reach out. To a shared delight, Miles asked her out. She said "Absolutely." Their first date was at Dolores Park in San Francisco. They enjoyed a picnic with cheap beer and spent the evening eating Spanish tapas, sharing laughter and stories until the day slipped away. Date after date, summer turned to autumn. When school started again, they realized they didn't want to say goodbye.

How we met

Miles surprised Morgan at the Morcom Rose Garden. On December 21, Morgan went on an early morning walk with their friend Nicki to the Morcom Rose Garden. Morgan spotted Miles from far away and quickly tried to figure out why he was there and up so early. Miles walked over, got down on one knee, played their favorite song "The Muse" by the Wood Brothers, and asked Morgan to marry him. Tears of joy followed and of course, she said "Yes!" Special thanks to their friends Nicki and Trevor for helping make this moment unforgettable.
