Q + A

What is the dress code?

Dress to impress in semi-formal attire! Please no jeans or dresses with majority white coloring. Both ceremony and reception venues are handicap accessible, however the Phipps outdoor garden has areas of cobblestone and grass, plan shoe ware accordingly!

What is the plan in case of inclement weather?

In the case of inclement weather (which, let’s be honest, is highly likely for May in Pittsburgh!), the Phipps outdoor garden is mostly covered by tents with closable sides. Umbrellas will be provided to guests in the case of rain. Fans and heaters will be used in the outdoor garden if needed!

Where should I park?

There is limited guest parking reserved for our ceremony and reception at Heinz Chapel and Phipps Conservatory. The entire left lane on the block of South Bellefield Avenue behind Heinz Chapel will be reserved for our wedding with Pittsburgh police directing parking. The “island” of parking space in front of Phipps is open to the public and we will have access to a small parking section next to Phipps. We HIGHLY encourage carpooling if traveling to our venue by car due to limited parking availability. The city of Pittsburgh is very accessible through public transit or ride sharing, which we strongly recommend for your safety if you are planning to drink!

How do I get into the venues?

The guest entrance to Heinz Chapel is through the red double doors facing the Cathedral of Learning. The handicap accessible entrance is located on the side of the building, with elevator access to bathrooms and the main level of the chapel. When standing at the main entrance facing Phipps, turn right down the sidewalk to enter the reception through the garden gate entrance.

Are children allowed at the wedding?

We love your little ones, but we have chosen to make our special day an adults-only celebration. No children please. We hope this advance notice means you are still able to join us for our big day!

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?

Please arrive at Heinz Chapel between 2 and 2:15 to allow ample time for parking and getting seated before the procession begins at 2:30 p.m.

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We kindly ask that phones and cameras are put away during our wedding ceremony.

What do I do during the break?

With the ceremony ending around 3 p.m. and reception starting at 6 p.m., you'll have a little free time on Saturday afternoon. Use this time however it suits you! Head back to the hotel to rest and freshen up, grab a late lunch, etc... You can find things to do and recommendations under the "Things to Do" tab on our website.
