how it began

THE MEET CUTE

God, being the ultimate matchmaker, planted the seeds of destiny for Moriah and John at Virginia Tech in 2014. Without realizing it yet, you could say they met through mutual friends. One special bridesmaid and groomsman became great friends through their freshman engineering class, and that friendship evolved into becoming next door neighbors the following year. As fate would have it, that is when Moriah and John also became neighbors, which laid the groundwork for a truly extraordinary friendship. During the summer of 2015, while Moriah was interning in DC without many friends in the area, John came to the rescue almost every weekend. He would drive to Moriah and bring her to the Agnos Family residence back in Virginia - and yes just as good friends! That summer was filled with a lot of fun memories and laughter. It was not until their Senior year of college that they left the stage of “being just friends” to more. When it was first known they were dating,&nbsp;another special groomsman's&nbsp;comment said it all - “When is the wedding?!” Flash forward 7 years, after many years of long distance, crazy work schedules, and unexpected life changes, the wedding bells arrived! Raleigh is home to John and Moriah right now, but Pittsburgh, Moriah’s hometown, provides the charm, romance, and old-school ambiance they were hoping for on their big day!

THE ENGAGEMENT

John pulled off the best surprise for someone who is not easy to surprise. On November 12, 2022, Moriah was going about her morning as usual - starting the day off teaching yoga class.&nbsp;After class, she was told to meet John’s sister and brother’s girlfriend for brunch at a 5 Star Restaurant in Raleigh - The Umstead. This brunch was proposed as a “business initiative” that only allowed a small reservation, with enough seats for just the ladies. After the delicious meal was over and some cocktails were consumed, the ladies decided to take a quick walk around the resort. After about 10 minutes, they decided to go back to the car. As they turned the corner, Moriah saw a man standing firm across the bridge with his hands crossed in front of him. Not expecting to know the individual, she said “does anyone see that man staring at us?”&nbsp;No one replied. After looking closer, she realized John was down the bridge.&nbsp;Still not immediately realizing what was going on, she said “Did anyone know John was going to be here?”&nbsp;The moment then set into realization. What seemed to be the longest walk ever and the longest speech by John (in the best way possible), he finally asked her to MARRY him!&nbsp;She obviously said, Yes!&nbsp; The surprise continued as she went back to John’s house and was greeted by family and friends who all drove and flew from afar just to celebrate.&nbsp;It was absolutely the most memorable night, surrounded by the most amazing people.&nbsp;The surprise of a lifetime that required so much help from friends and family!&nbsp;

Suggestions Between Ceremony and Reception

Transportation is provided for all guests immediately following the ceremony. The bus will take guests from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral to The Oaklander and Wyndham University Center Hotels (across the street from one another). Transportation will also be provided from the hotels to the Carnegie Museum of Art in time for the Reception. Recommendations: 1 | Grab a drink on the 10th floor of the Oaklander Hotel and/or freshen up in the hotel before rejoining everyone at the reception! 2 | Take a quick Uber (or walk, weather permitting) to grab a cocktail: The Porch, Butterjoint, Union Grill. 3 | Visit the museum! The museum closes at 5 PM, but feel free to pop in. Past this time, most rooms in the Museum will be closed during the wedding reception.

1 | Market Square: visit the Pittsburgh Market Christmas Village along with some delicious restaurants, and grab Pittsburgh's famous Primanti Bros Sandwich. 2 | PPG Place: feel the magic of the season at PPG when visiting the city's famous Christmas tree, ice skating rink, and the beauty of the glass buildings. 3 | Pittsburgh Incline: ever hear of Mr. Rodgers? Take the Duquense Incline to the top of Mount Washington for the best city views, and grab a beer at Steel Mill Saloon! 4 | North Shore: for all the sports fanatics, walk past PNC Park and Heinz Field, along with fun restaurants and bars on the water - one of our favorite spots in the city! 5 | Strip District: Pittsburgh's unique neighborhood with rich culture - Italian grocers / bakers , hip eateries, Pittsburgh swag, and more!
