Everything you need to know about attending a Vietnamese Catholic wedding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us!
What Can I Expect At A Vietnamese Reception?
The first thing you will notice is that all the guests will have the opportunity to take photos with the bride and groom upon arrival of reception venue.
Once seated for dinner, the couple and wedding party will greet each table ("chao ban"). Decide on one (1) person to say a toast to the couple on behalf of your table. After the toast, you can give the couple a red envelope ("li xi").
What Is A Red Envelope?
Red is an auspicious, lucky color in Vietnamese culture. Red envelopes with cash or checks are traditionally given to the couple during the reception as gifts (there are no registries in Vietnamese culture)
The giving of red envelopes is a way to symbolically bestow happiness, luck and good wishes to the couple.
What do you eat at a Vietnamese wedding?
Dinner will be a traditional Vietnamese 10 course, family style meal.
