Miguel is the kindest person I know. He’s incredibly empathetic and always knows how to make me feel seen and heard. He’s also the most loving partner, and his dedication to his family is something I admire so much. Even though he can be a little shy at first, he has a silly and funny side that always makes me laugh.

From the moment I first saw Murphy, it was love at first sight. She is so beautiful, and to me, she is absolutely perfect. I feel so lucky to have her in my life. She has this fun, silly side, and I love our cheesy jokes. Beyond all that, she’s so determined and dependable—she’s truly everything I have ever wanted.

From the moment I first saw Murphy, it was love at first sight. All these thoughts rushed into my head: She’s beautiful. Who is she? I have to talk to her. That was one of the first times she made me brave.

Another sign that I knew she was the one was when she asked if we could just be friends. In my head, I said no, but my heart knew I couldn’t go on without her. So, I became her friend, just to keep her in my life. I remember many times I wished I hadn’t listened to my heart, but I thank God every day that I did.

I couldn’t stay away. I remember skipping school to go to the mall and goof off, or staying after work for hours just to talk. I would wake up early before her morning shifts just to see her, and I’d surprise her at school because that girl from Illinois was always on my mind. The fun we had together was unmatched, and I loved how I could be completely myself from day one.

We started our journey in Muscatine in a tiny studio apartment, then moved to Iowa City to better ourselves. We grew so much, both as individuals and as a couple. Now, we’re back where it all began, and it feels like we’ve come full circle. I’ll never forget the days we would dream about being together, talking about what we would do and where we would go.

For others, they are marrying their best friend. For me, I am marrying my soulmate.

I knew Miguel was my soulmate through all the little moments. His patience with my stubbornness and his unwavering support for all my dreams—both big and small—showed me his heart. Whether it was my decision to go to graduate school, my sudden desire to become a runner, or simply coming to church with me each week, he was always there.

I fell in love with his enthusiasm for family life and his deep commitment to maintaining close friendships. I knew he was the one every time he kissed my cheek and every time he cared for me when I was sick. Falling in love with Miguel was like falling into a dream I never wanted to wake up from.

I love his smile that stretches from ear to ear and the way his eyes crinkle. His deep brown eyes show an unwavering strength. The world could be crumbling around me, but all I have to do is look at Miguel to make it stop shaking. His empathy for others is one of the sweetest things about him, and it shows the genuine kindness in his heart.

A part of me always knew he was the one from the day I met him, but the love Miguel gives me isn’t just shown in grand gestures like filling my dad’s old Chevy with balloons or our trips to Iowa City, Michigan, or Adventureland. His love is best displayed in his deep support, patience, and kindness every single day. God truly blessed me by putting Miguel in my life, and I will be eternally grateful.
