Myles and I both work for the same company, MPOWERHealth.
I began working with them in Oklahoma in 2018 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma. After a year they asked me to relocate to Fort Wayne, Indiana. I worked in Indiana for almost 2 years when they asked me if I would be interested in moving to Austin. As an Okie, that question made me break out in hives. A Sooner, living in Austin?? No way! I initially told my regional manager (pictured above) “Thanks, but no thanks.” He was shocked! So many people were wanting to come to Austin and I said no?! After a little convincing I finally agreed since I would be able to move closer to family sooner than if I waited to move back to Oklahoma like I had planned on doing.
Here in Austin we work at different hospitals and some of them can be very hard to navigate. Our boss had reached out to Myles who was at the hospital that I would be going to to work with a different surgeon and asked him if he would show me around... Myles found me wondering the halls of the hospital and came up behind me and asked me if I needed any help... I turned around to see this tall, good looking man and I nervously spouted off, “no, thanks.”
Fast forward a couple weeks, we both get told that we’ve been nominated for Top Performers for our territories and are invited to Dallas for an awards ceremony. Fast forward a couple weeks, we both fly to Dallas with our Regional Manager to meet all of our upper management, including our CEO, COO and CFO. Myles and I quickly realized how awkward we both are in social settings when we don’t know many people. We chatted quite a bit that evening before we both headed back to Austin to next day.
A few weeks later was my 28th birthday. I didn't know many people in Austin but wanted to go out and see the town. I decided to invite some of my coworkers out for my birthday dinner at Aba. That evening Myles and I really hit it off. We talked all night, danced and had so much fun.
In the following days Myles would learn more about me and my love for sports. I grew up with an older brother that played baseball year round. It was all I knew growing up...
After talking about my love for baseball, Myles decided to finally ask me out on our first date! It was the regional baseball tournament in Austin and he got us tickets to watch UT play Arizona State. Although it hurt this Sooner to be surrounded by the ugliest of orange, the thrill of being around baseball again was so much fun!
We continued to go to many different baseball games including the Round Rock Express..
And still to this day we have season tickets to UT Baseball (and football) Go Sooners! 😉
