A Chance Meeting on Star Wars Day

Our story begins on May 4th, a day cherished by Star Wars fans around the world. May the 4th be with you took on a whole new meaning for us that year. Both big fans of Star Wars, we found ourselves in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. Derek was there celebrating his brother's bachelor party, while Myranda was in town for her friend Lauren’s bachelorette party. Little did we know, the force was about to bring us together.

A Pool Party Encounter

The sun was shining brightly over the bustling pool party at Encore beach club. Amidst the lively atmosphere, we locked eyes. Derek, surrounded by his brother and (his) friends, noticed Myranda and her friends laughing and dancing to the music. A casual hello turned into a deep conversation which we both very vividly remember, and for sure was not too loaded to recall. We found ourselves engrossed in each other’s company, feeling like we had known each other for years. As the day turned into night, we reluctantly parted ways, thinking it was just a fleeting encounter.

A Surprising Reunion

As fate would have it, our paths crossed again. On Sunday night, Derek was at the airport, preparing to board his flight back to Denver. Feeling a bit nostalgic about the weekend, he glanced around and couldn't believe his eyes—there was Myranda, surrounded by her friends, heading to the same gate. They recognized him immediately, and a chorus of friendly voices exclaimed, “Hey, isn’t that the guy Myranda met at the pool party?” It felt like a scene straight out of a rom com. Despite the undeniable connection and the excitement of the reunion, Myranda, valuing a bit of mystery, chose not to exchange phone numbers (as well as shame from the fact she had the voice of the old lady/case worker in the movie Beatlejuice)

The LinkedIn Pursuit

But Myranda wasn’t ready to let go of the connection. A few days later, with a bit of detective work, she found Derek on LinkedIn (which might be a bit creepy). She sent him a message, breaking the ice with a joke about the odds of meeting twice in such a big city. Intrigued, flattered, and a string of serendipity, Derek asked Myranda out on a date.

The First Date

Our first date was unforgettable—a Rockies game at Coors Field. The atmosphere was electric, and as we sat in the stands, we found ourselves striking up conversations with the strangers around us, sharing stories and laughter. It was clear from the start that we both had a natural ability to connect with others and, more importantly, with each other. The evening ended with a walk around downtown Denver, where we talked about everything under the stars.

Growing Closer

From that moment on, our bond only grew stronger. Alongside the goofy beloved dog, Sawyer, we shared countless adventures. From hiking and camping in the mountains to ski slopes, every moment brought us closer. Sawyer quickly became the glue that held our little family together, joining us on many of our escapades!

The Proposal

In August 2023, we took a big vacation to Hawaii. We explored the lush, moist, landscapes and beautiful beaches, and on the picturesque north shore of Oahu, Derek had something special planned. With the sun setting over the ocean, casting a golden glow over the sand, Derek got down on one knee and proposed. Myranda, with tears of joy in her eyes, said yes. She had said it was the best proposal she could have hope for, with a ring that some had said lit up the night sky.

The Next Chapter

Now, we are excited to take the next step in our love story. We can't wait to celebrate our wedding in Boulder (ok juuuust a bit outside Boulder)Colorado, in September of this year, surrounded by family and friends. Our adventure continues, and we are thrilled to share it with all of you. Thank you for being a part of our journey and for supporting us as we embark on this new and exciting chapter of our lives.
