No matter how "cliche" it is, it is true that God has a perfect time for everything. After attending the same church (The Highlands) for years, Shaun and Myunique never noticed each other until God stepped into their story. After going through a divorce, Shaun decided to commit more of his time to serving the local church and leveraging his life experiences to help others grow.. All the while, being on and off with dating, Myunique found herself in what she called 'a season of santification' in which she was deeply pressing into all that God had for her, including leading the Young Adult ministry at the church.
Shaun and Myunique first met, when she reached out to him after receiving an impact card to serve in the church. He had checked off youth ministry, young adult ministry and life groups. Not thinking about it, as soon as Myunique got her workflow card, she reached out to Shaun to set up a coffee meeting to go over why He wanted to serve.
When Myunique asked Shaun how he was specifically interested in serving, he shared that he felt he was there for her, to support her however she needed. Little did either of them know, that would carry a different meaning months down the line.
Over time, Shaun begin serving alongside Myunique and others in The Collective (Young Adults) and he felt the Lord impressing her on him more and more. So much so that once he felt the Lord telling him it was okay to make the first move, he did boldly and confidently — at his first collective night with the team. However, this initial move did not go according to plan as he seemingly got turned down from Myunique in almost an instant.
Confused with whether he heard from the Lord correctly, Shaun went back to the Lord to get clarity on whether or not asking Myunique out was from Him or not. Either he heard God wrong, or Myunique did. She told him that she didn't really "date in ministry" because it could get messy not just for her, but also the young adults. But Shaun didn't buy it, instead he continued to ask questions for clarification.
After pushing a bit more, he realized Myunique shutting him down had nothing to do with him, and everything to do with past situations that left her more broken than she should have been and so his prayers shifted as He continued in prayer about it. As he prayed for the situation and her, Myunique's heart began to shift towards Shaun as the Lord told her it was okay to try something different. If you knew Myunique, you would know she had a 'type' and truth be told Shaun didnt initially fit that type, but considering her 'type' never was good, this was possibly a good sign.
The thing that was different about Shaun versus other guys, was that Myunique knew He loved Jesus more than anything, therefore things could potentially be different for her — and with him, it was. Myunique finally began to let her walls down in getting to know Shaun, she eventually agreed to go on ONE date with him and it was to be a secret from everyone, just incase it didnt work out. She didnt want herself, or young adults disappointed in the outcome if it ended badly. However, both Shaun and other young adults called her out and knew that this was something worth holding onto.
Slowly but surely, the relationship began to grow, with God at the center of it all. They say that good things come to those who wait, and this began a good, good thing.
God took two very broken people— one divorced, as a single dad and one who had so many scars from previous relationships and created a beautiful story of redemption and hope as he blended two lives together as one.
Shaun and Myunique are thrilled to do life together, as they serve the Lord, on mission for His kingdom and glory.
