The first time we met each other was a display of our cultural differences. We finally got together to get dessert at Jamba Juice after a couple of months of talking online. I walked in and saw a girl standing in line that looked like the pictures I had seen on the app. I said, “Naira”? And she responded by saying yes and going in straight for a hug. Apparently, according to her, I was surprised by this action and reacted by doing my best to keep my distance. Luckily, she told me this months later so we were able to move on with our date.

Some will notice that we met just before the pandemic started. We were also both living in new places and full of optimism about what we were doing and where we were going. Then the pandemic started and ruined plans for us and millions of other people. If there was any silver lining during this pandemic for us, it would be the fact that we had the opportunity to spend so much extra time together with our city being locked down. Almost every day we got to spend time together with our friends away or too afraid to go out. We believe that was why things moved fairly fast for us. We quickly realized how much we loved each other and the reasons why we wanted to spend all our time together when we couldn’t eat out or see a movie or do any of the things people who are dating usually do. Instead it was just us trying to figure out what we could do that day. We are certain that is a big reason why we came to our conclusion in no time.
