Our Wedding

It all began at West Catholic High School in 2018. We met during our Kairos retreat—one of us leading, the other attending—and while we didn’t know it then, something special had quietly started. During high school, we didn’t talk much. We were in different circles, with a quiet familiarity but no real connection—yet.Years later, that changed with a simple phone call.Max called to schedule an eye exam at the office where I worked at the time. When I saw the name “Max Visser” pop up on the caller ID, my heart skipped a beat. I was nervous to see him after all those years, so I scheduled him at a different office—one I wouldn't be working at that day. But, in true rom-com fashion, Max accidentally went to the wrong office—the one I was actually at. Our doctor decided to squeeze him in, and I ended up being the technician to work him up for the exam. I was flustered and tried to make it the quickest, most professional appointment possible. Afterward, when Max was picking out his glasses, he kept asking for my opinion.Two weeks later, I had the privilege of calling to let him know his glasses were ready. Max swears he recognized my voice instantly and thought to himself, “I need to go pick them up today—she’s there.”A few hours later, he walked into the office. I finished dispensing his glasses and asked, “Is there anything else I can help you with?” With a smile, he replied, “Would you like to go out for dinner sometime?”I said yes.Planning a dinner date was a little tricky—it was Fourth of July weekend—so we settled on brunch instead. And that’s how we ended up at Morning Belle in downtown Grand Rapids for our first official date. From that moment on, we just kept going out. What started with a chance encounter turned into something easy, effortless, and full of joy.On only our second date, I met Max's parents (definitely nerve-wracking), and before we even officially called it a relationship, Max was already introducing me to his friends as his girlfriend.Since then, we’ve built a life full of little traditions and big love. Movie nights with popcorn, weekends by the water, swimming in the river behind Max’s parents’ house—these are the moments that have shaped us.Then came July 2nd, 2022—the day we officially became “us.”Not long after, on a trip to Traverse City to support Max’s dad in a mountain bike race, we went wine tasting with his brother and his brother’s girlfriend. As we paused to take in the vineyard view and snap a few pictures, Max got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.From a high school retreat, to an unexpected reunion, to a lifetime together—our story is one we couldn’t have written better ourselves. We’re so excited for this next chapter, and even more grateful that you’re here to be a part of it.

Todo comenzó en West Catholic High School en el 2018. Nos conocimos durante nuestro retiro de Kairos—uno de nosotros como líder, el otro como participante—y aunque en ese momento no lo sabíamos, algo especial había comenzado silenciosamente. En la prepa casi no hablábamos. Estábamos en círculos diferentes, con una familiaridad tranquila, pero sin una conexión real… todavía.Años después, todo cambió con una simple llamada telefónica.Max llamó para agendar un examen de la vista en la clínica donde yo trabajaba en ese entonces. Cuando vi el nombre “Max Visser” en el identificador de llamadas, el corazón me dio un vuelco. Estaba nerviosa de verlo después de tantos años, así que lo agendé en otra sucursal—una donde yo no estaría ese día. Pero, como en una comedia romántica, Max fue por error a la clínica donde sí estaba yo. El doctor decidió atenderlo de todos modos, y terminé siendo yo la técnica que lo atendió. Estaba tan nerviosa que traté de hacer la cita lo más rápida y profesional posible. Al final, cuando estaba eligiendo sus lentes, Max no dejaba de pedirme mi opinión.Dos semanas después, me tocó llamarle para avisarle que sus lentes estaban listos. Max dice que reconoció mi voz al instante y pensó: “Tengo que ir hoy—ella está ahí.”Unas horas después, entró por la puerta. Le entregué sus lentes y le pregunté: “¿Hay algo más en lo que pueda ayudarte?” Sonriendo, me respondió: “¿Te gustaría salir a cenar algún día?”Y le dije que sí.Como era el fin de semana del 4 de julio, fue un poco difícil planear una cena, así que decidimos mejor ir a brunch. Y así fue como terminamos en Morning Belle, en el centro de Grand Rapids, en nuestra primera cita oficial. Desde ese momento, no dejamos de salir. Lo que empezó como un encuentro casual, se convirtió en algo fácil, natural y lleno de alegría.En nuestra segunda cita Nallely conocio a los papás de Max (sí, fue súper estresante), y antes de que siquiera fuera “oficial”, Max ya me presentaba con sus amigos como su novia.Desde entonces hemos construido una vida llena de pequeñas tradiciones y un gran amor: noches de películas con palomitas, fines de semana cerca del agua, nadar en el río detrás de la casa de los papás de Max… son esos momentos los que nos han formado.Luego llegó el 2 de Julio de 2022, el día en que oficialmente nos convertimos en 'nosotros'.No mucho tiempo después, en un viaje a Traverse City para apoyar al papá de Max en una carrera de ciclismo de montaña, fuimos a una cata de vinos con su hermano y la novia de su hermano. Mientras admirábamos la vista del viñedo y tomábamos algunas fotos, Max se arrodilló y me pidió que me casara con él.Desde un retiro en la prepa, hasta un reencuentro inesperado, hasta una vida juntos—nuestra historia es algo que no podríamos haber escrito mejor. Estamos muy emocionados por este nuevo capítulo, y aún más agradecidos de que estés aquí para ser parte de él.
