It all started when Sara Rankin came to visit Nancy in Sidney, Montana, during the weekend of October 8th, 2021. On Friday, the girls took a trip to Williston for good food and drinks, then made their way back to Sidney. But the night felt a little too slow—they missed the kind of fun they used to have tearing down Laramie together. Saturday rolled around and the girls were looking to relive the college days. Sara reached out to an old livestock judging teammate from Northwest College, Ethan Beery, who lived just an hour away. After coaching football that day, Ethan and his cousin Calder agreed to take the girls out for a night on the town.
Plans shifted quickly. Instead of waiting in Sidney, Sara and Nancy found themselves driving to Circle. They started the night at the Vets Club, then took to the back roads for a booze cruise. Eventually, they made their way to Colton’s house to pick up Calder. The four of them—Nancy, Calder, Sara, and Ethan—spent the night driving around, singing loud, laughing harder, and drinking a few too many beers.
By the early morning hours, they all ended up at the Beery Ranch. Nancy and Calder stayed up until 6 AM talking in the kitchen—about sports, hunting, family, childhood stories, and all the little things that only come out in those rare, unfiltered conversations.
After October 9th, Calder and Nancy spent every single weekend together. And the rest, as they say, is history.
